Could you post numbers or anything..?
I mean, if getting top DPS in this scenario meant getting 3,500, then that's not entirely uncommon for MM if it's someone who knows how to play correctly.
Now if this MM got 5k DPS or something on a VoA-25, we're talking some crazy skills or something else anomalous.
In the end, sure, mathematically one spec is better than the other, but skill as a player determines DPS output more than anything.
I know perfectly geared and specced SV hunters who pull 2.5k in normal raid scenarios while BM hunters that are a little lacking in gear pull 3k on the same fight.
How you play is most important.
EDIT: After reviewing the armory page, fair to good gear with poor gemming choices and a... decent spec.
I really couldn't tell you anything except either this hunter plays exceptionally well, or you and the other hunters played rather poorly.

Without even vague numbers, I wouldn't be able to suggest a theory except that the MM really knows how to play his class/spec.
And that there may have been multiple mana well totems floating around, which greatly reduce the need to be in Viper, saving MM a lot of hassle.
The best I can currently get in VoA is mid 4,000s. Same with Patchwerk.
But I know of a few upgrades I need, so I'm fine with how I'm doing.

With all respect to those of us who have respected to Surv...this amazed me. There were at least two other hunters in the group. But not only did he do more dps than the other hunters he also did more than some people in our guild who are always at the top of every 10 and 25 Naxx that I have been to.
Any thoughts?
Yes, more QQ regarding SV hunters.
Wow is much about playing your class and spec. Properly geared players with a great understanding of their respective rotation should consistently be at the top of the charts, latency notwithstanding.
There was a time when BM was the stuff. Then it was MM. Today it's SV. Tomorrow? Who knows? Heck, I even remember when mages were the stuff now I consistantly out dps them.
I sympathize with your guild observation. One guild my warrior is in can barely get 7 people together to run naxx and then pug with another small guild. Many of them believe they are doing great just getting past Patchwerk. The guild my hunter is in, we reguarlly clear Naxx25 and often 12 man OS25 just for something to do.
Sorry my friend, but I didn't save it and don't remember. Its been five or six weeks back. But recently in some 10 and 25 Naxx I have seen MM hunters with similar specs out dps Surv hunters from the likes of TG, etc. I realize that just because you may be in the top guilds doesn't mean you are among the best players, but they do have requirements.
I would like to see hard data as well. I put out around 4.5k dps in vault 25 which compared to some is great and compared to others is lame. However, please understand, if the boss dies it does not matter to me who did the most dps. I use a dps meter to gauge how I am doing compared to myself so that I might be a better, more productive raid member.
