Okay, we all have been playing with bad players. There were so many times I thought I have to be the best on the server, even though I am quite terrible, I can't really give a number. Some people are just bad, they suck at whatever the role they are performing at the very moment, simply because they never took their sweet time, to read what the skills they use (or omit) do.
Sometimes, when confronted about their absolute, abysmal noobysm, they shine with an answer "
soz, lol, this is my new build XD havent goten uzed to it yet lol
", even tho they are epicly geared lvl 80 in a raid.
But we live with it. We have been living with it for 5 long years now, and we can keep on going.
What I want to do, is to compile a list of encounters, that you are going to remember for a long time. This isn't a list for people who do low dps on a boss and therefore they are called bad players; this isnt for people who forgot that one time to switch to defensive stance, and wiped the party / raid. This isn't for people who were "
very sorry, but this is taking far too long and I have to be going, now - good luck
"
This is reserved, for people who need to be remembered. And it doesn't just mean, they have to be bad, wrong, stupid, or anything like that. This can be anything interesing.
I hope you can share some of your most memorable encounters with us.
Of course the golden rule is -
no names
. This isn't a place for you to smear somebody, because he ninja'ed you.
So, three nice characters, from the top of my head:
Death Knight
- specced for unholy dps, wearing defense gear and stonesking rune, has joined my party. When asked why he wouldn't tank, if he has the gear, he answered "
becuse my tanking sucks
", needless to say his dps was abysmal too because he probably had more def than I had in my tanking build and gear. But I don't think he would live long enough as a tank too, without any of the important tanking talents. I was pretty sure he's gonna roll on a 2h-sword that dropped, but he didnt and kept whining that there are no axes for him. When I asked why he passed the sword then, he replied "
because my swords skill sucks
". Then I tried to explain him, that it will continue to - as he named it - suck, unless he grabs a sword and starts using it.
I think he was overwhelemed by the magnitute of that argument.
It's really the first time I have seen someone knowingly
not
rolling need on an item he could use and was an upgrade, just because he felt better with something else.
It's like
anti-ninja'ing
I raced a guy
to a titanium node. He got there first. He probably was faster by an amount of my ping, which - suprisingly - wasn't high that day; anwyay we both struck the node with pickaxes, but when my casting bar finished filling, I got a "
This item is already being used
" message. I cursed the guy, thinking he's probably laughing hard somewhere out there, somewhere in Europe. And then he opened trade window, and gave me half of what he mined.
I stood like an idiot for a few seconds. Shocked.
My personal favourite
however, is a restoration shaman, who healed me at Gun'Drak. First he didn't heal people who - in his opinion - are going to die anyway. So every hard pull ended with a death for a mage: "
sorry, there was no point in healing you
". But what really made me shout out loud "
Come on, you can't be serious
" was when he ordered me, the tank, to pull mobs 200yds away to his totems, because he doens't want to
waste mana
putting them at a new spot.
I know you guys also have some interesting stories, about players you met ;)

I wish I had more people like that guy on my server...
Unfortunately, I can't think of any myself off the top of my head...besides in-game friends.
=(
I feel like a moron.

Right after BC I rerolled horde; a Forsaken Rogue. I was watching duels outside of UC when I said "looser pays me 1c". I was really keeping an eye on this lvl 70 rogue that was tearing it up. He finally said to me, every time I win, I'll give you 1g. 15 minutes later I got 7g and some really great advise since I was a newbie rogue. We actually became pretty good in game friends.

Wow, only positive moments?
That makes my orcish blood boil.
Okay here's my positive one too:
Ulduar 10man pug
.
I met a resto shaman day before, and we tried, hopeleslly to heal a ToC 10man pug. But the dps was terrible and people didn't bother to stick to tactics, so we never got past worms. When the pug was disbanded, I and the other shaman exchanged our thoughts about shaman healing (as we both were resto for some time) for an hour or two and we kinda clicked. He told me I remind him of "
a younger himself
".
Anyway the next day he whispers with an invite to Uldy 10-man pug, where a
Spellshield
drops. Four people roll and I win. It's the first time I'm actually in Ulduar (word) and I get this beauty, then I start to feel like a *!@#, because the shaman that invited me rolled for it too, and lost. He whispered:
-
Damn, I've been trying to get this shield for months now! Would you sell it to me? 1000g ?
.
I felt I should, even though my roll was "legal", I felt a bit bad, and I admit - I needed money, since I just bought my epic flying skill. I said I could ask no more than 500 from him, and sold him the shield. I thought I was just lucky, and since I'm just starting my raid career I'll have plenty of opportunities to get a good shield soon.
When we finished the pug (couldn't kill Kolo) I changed my mind :D
I thought that I might be having chances to get it someday, but not too soon, and I already had it in the backpack, and sold it away to a guy I met just a day ago. And about that moment he whispered again:
-
You want the shield back? I fell in love with it when I saw it, but now I see it's really not that much of an upgrade. You would have more use of it.
Needles to say we rolled-back our first agreement, and the fantastic shield had served me very well for weeks.
And I stay in frequent contact with that Shaman :)

I don't think that "most" memorable can really be a single incident.
I met him back in classic. The warrior who ended up as the main tank of my first serious raiding guild. First a great guy. Second incredibly patient. Third a truly phenomenal tank. We raided 6 nights a week, so while he was excellent at holding threat the shear number of pulls meant that the raid would pull something loose. Seemingly effortlessly when someone managed to pull a mob or boss off him (either through bad luck or foolish play) he'd recover it before it got to anyone else. Many times the off tank went down and he picked up the add before it got loose. He was an alchemist and used to make the pots and flasks we needed for each raid. He was the only non-guild member that regularly tanked for the top raid guild on that server when they came up short for their progression raid. (they were always one step up in the content from us so there was no lockout conflict).
In my mind he sets the standard for tanking in this game then and now. Unfortunately he had to leave the game for RL issues.

Back around the time wotlk had just been released a warrior joined my guild. It turned out he was a 10 yr old boy trying to make his way through the world of wow. My guild is for people of all ages so no problem there, but he lived alone with his mother, no bigger brothers or sisters to help him with quests or anything, so pretty soon he was getting on the nerves of the guildies, constantly asking for hints or translations of quests since he didn't understand english (the guild is an all dane guild). On top of that he got flamed a lot for sucking at tanking and to be honest he had no clue what people were talking about. A sad little trooper having a rough time.
DPS warriors wasn't a concept back then, but I managed to convince my guild to think of him as a "plate rogue" rather than a tank, and it turned out better when people didn't expect him to tank.
I was leveling a third druid, I already had a feral and a moonkin, so this one was going resto all the way. I had aprox. the same level as the warrior so we started doing quests together. I sucked at killing and he sucked at figuring quests out so we ended up being a team and had a lot of fun. I ended up running with him from lvl 45'ish to 70.
One night, when we were around lvl 62 a couple of guildies asked us if we felt like tanking and healing a ramparts run. All though we had been playing together for many levels, he still wasn't a tank, I was often getting aggro for healing him when he pulled more than one mob, so I declined the offer saying that I didn't want to try it with my young friend as a tank.
He took that rather hard. Here we had been through so much together and now I didn't trust him? I told him about how I was being attacked by mobs, having to root them and move to avoid being killed and all that. He had seen that happen, but hadn't really thought about it. I told him that that's what tanking is all about, protecting the others in the group and he was like "oh, I didn't know I had to do that".
I arranged a "play date" with our guild tank where the guild tank and my young warrior friend could discus the finer points of holding aggro. He learned which spells to use, to zoom the camera out and pay attention to the surroundings, got a talent respec and we even had the guildies craft him some nice tanking items.
A couple of days later he proudly declared that he would never let anything hit me again, and he never did. We started doing a lot of instance runs and even though he didn't quite understand the word tanking, he had no problem understanding the idea of protecting the group, picking up all stray mobs - he wasn't our "tank", he was our "protector" and he did a great job at tanking - he even ended up main tanking the guilds Kara runs at a later point.
A year or so later he met a cute girl and discovered roller skating but once in a while he sends messages to our guild through his rl friend who is also in the guild, letting us all know that he hasn't forgotten us..
There will always be a special place in my heart for that young fellow that started out in a lot of trouble, annoying people and getting yelled at, fighting his way through it all and ending up being a main tank and valued member of the guild.
awwwh, thats an amazing story
