The Percy Jackson and the Olympians and related books are awesome.
Really? I would think that it's centered around a
Gary-Stu type character
, what with him being the son of Zeus and all. Am I wrong?

The first 5 are about a son of Poseidon, and I really wouldn't call him too much of a Gary Stu. I guess near the end you could say he gets that way.
The next 5, so far, are about a son of Zeus (who is an amnesiac, not really someone I'd call a Gary Stu, either, I think. I'm not well versed in literary criticism, I just like to read stories.), a son of Hephaestus, and a daughter of Aphrodite. I'm only about done with the first book in this part, so I haven't encountered the other main characters. The story so far hints that there might be seven total, though I don't know if they'll all always be in the spotlight.
Most of the characters seem to have quite a bit of flaws, and don't sound very Mary Sue-ish to me. But then again, I really don't look into that sort of thing too much.

Every character is flawed (and not like "I'm so clumsy!" flawed), most are demigods, since that's what the series is about, and most are fairly deep characters.
I'll vouch for the series, HiVolt.

Alrighty. A friend of mine has a copy of the first book in the series, so I'll see if I can borrow it from him. Hell, I read Cycle of Hatred. It can't be worse than that pile of garbage.

The Haunted Vagina
Not linking because it's probably NSFW or something.
Steve is madly in love with his eccentric girlfriend, Stacy. Unfortunately, their sex life has been suffering as of late, because Steve is worried about the odd noises that have been coming from Stacy's pubic region. She says that her vagina is haunted. She doesn't think it's that big of a deal. Steve, on the other hand, completely disagrees.
When a living corpse climbs out of her during an awkward night of sex, Stacy learns that her vagina is actually a doorway to another world. She persuades Steve to climb inside of her to explore this strange new place. But once inside, Steve finds it difficult to returnā¦ especially once he meets an oddly attractive woman named Fig, who lives within the lonely haunted world between Stacy's legs.
That is a real book.
Never assume something can't be worse.

Anything by Mercedes Lackey, as she runs the gamete from sword and sorcery to realistic magick.
Could pick up some of the Terry Brooks stuff; Shannara is always worth a read, the Word and Void series and the Magic Kingdom of Landover.
I'll think of more for ya Edan.

poke...
Hint: Didn't get home last week - was offered a week at the Elite Center in Stockholm for practice. Tomorrow.
Until then;
Great North Road by Peter F. Hamilton
Way of Shadows by Brent Weeks
Ravenor Omnibus / Eisenhorn Omnibus by Dan Abnett
Ship of Magic (alternatively the Assassin trilogy and the Fool trilogy) by Robin Hobb
Law of Nines by Terry Goodkind

They are 'younger' books(Lol, younger but filled to the brim with blood and gore....) but any of the series by KA Applegate if you never read them; Animorphs, Everworld and Remnants.

Ravenor was good, Way of Shadows was okay.
For other fantasy/sci fi books, I'd recommend the Shannara series/Word and Void series by Terry Brooks, the Wheel of Time by Robert Jordan, and the Mistborn series/Stormlight Archive/Warbreaker by Brandon Sanderson.

Just finished reading
The Idiot.
Good Lord! That...is an amazing book. Wasn't as good as the
Brothers Karamzov
I admit, with some of the characters occasionally fading and not having enough of a presence to make them immediately recognizable when they return, but still an amazing book.
