I'm fairly sure it's a "welfare epics" argument, only gone horribly wrong. Here, I'll address it:
Battlegrounds, in some situations, do take skill. It's all about your opponents and what you choose to do to win. Is it phenomenally difficult for one class to kill another? Sometimes, yes, sometimes, no. It all depends on the players' (get this) skill, class and gear. It makes all the sense in the world, really, that mages wear cloth while warriors wear plate. Trust me, it's not just Blizzard on that one. The only limit put on characters' gear in a battleground/battlegroup is one imposed by themselves. The gear isn't extremely difficult to get, no, so on the other hand of things there's no reason you shouldn't be able to get it yourself. You can't expect Blizzard to cater the game to every single level of dedication towards gearing your character. I understand that not everyone can even spend the time to play "casually" but I'm sorry - PVP gear is stupid easy to get. If you're really concerned with PVP, there's no reason you can't get it. Oh, and Horde vs. Alliance arguments are dumb. Not only that, but the 'more people' is only relevant based on individual server census. Generalizations of an entire faction are pointless, because I guarantee you there will be a time you'll get trounced by Alliance teams over and over on your Horde-dominant realm. :P
That being said, if this discussion must go on I expect it to stay on-topic and maybe even insightful.

Getting Tier4 quality epic gear from PvP is Ez-mode. Wish Blizz would nerf every bit of the PvP sets and items so that people would know how hard the PvE aspect of the game is by doing the gruesome grind and tactics of raiding. They should make it impossible to use the PvP gear outside battlegrounds and arenas, to be honest.

All right, but don't even think about bringing your Tier 6 garbage into my battlegrounds and arenas, then.
Door's gotta swing both ways.

So basically, Chunna, you want the same gear as someone playing as much as, say, you work? Sure, but then I want the same salary as you, by working as much as you play WoW.

My take:
PvP gear is fine. Arena gear off vendors is fine. It'll take you awhile to get a piece unless you sit around doing BGs all day. Assuming you gain...oh, 3K Honor a day or so, which I find to be a reasonable amount for maybe 2 hours or so of BGs, it'll take you 4-5 days to get a piece of Gladiator gear. Obviously, the more time you put into it, the faster you'll get the rewards, but chances are that you won't be getting a new piece of gear every day, especially now that almost all of the Battlegroups have boycotted AV on Alliance.
The bigger problem is people who don't know how to play their class, or are extremely undergeared. I've seen people running around in 1-2 pieces of Gladiator gear, and the rest of their gear consists of quest greens. I've seen countless Warriors using horrible gem choices (Agility gems?!) with horrid specs, and I'm sure there are other people from other classes with S1 gear who are absolutely terrible at this game, as well.
These types of people are the ones that have everyone all worked up about S1 gear. However, there are many good players out there who are in S1 gear, simply because they have been more PvE oriented, have had time restraints and found it hard to find Arena teams in the past, or maybe they just came back from a long break.
Myself, for example. Up until about 2 weeks ago, I was all about PvE. I was a core raider in my guild, which progressed into SSC/TK. In the off-times I would mainly farm for my epic flyer or work on alts. I was Fury specc'd, which is great for PvE DPS, but absolutely horrendous for PvP, and as I didn't want to respec, PvP was not really an option for me.
Well, long story short, RL stuff happened, my guild disbanded. Since then I've been PvPing. Prior to that I had a few PvP pieces, but not much. Now I'm in 4/5 S1 and off-set PvP pieces, sitting at 218 Resilience. I'm not the best PvPer in the world, but by no means am I a "Welfare Scrub". I have S1 gear, so what? I know how to play my class. I know which specs work and which don't. I know how to gem my gear for optimal usage. People can call me a scrub all they want, that's not going to change the fact that even before I got my S1 gear, I knew how to play my class. Way better than all those other Warriors I've seen in 2-3 piece S3, yet they still get caught in Fears, still use Rend, and don't know how to Berserker Rage out of a Sap or Gouge.
My 2 cents.

Personally, I love
having
to PVP to get gear survive for more than 5 seconds in a PVP battleground. I love knowing that all of the hard earned-gear I raid for 6+ hours a night, 5-7 nights a week means absolutely -nothing- outside of raiding and that it only exists to serve its own purpose like some horrible, endless cycle. Resilience, hooray! Oh wait, that was total sarcasm. At least the PVP gear is easy to get, I guess.
