The "Monk" Hero Class Could Work

My understanding is that common opinion is in favor of "The Planes" expansion next, and that there is talk of a Monk style hero class. I think this has some potential.
Now, before you go any further, let me say that this idea is just off the top of my head right now and is in no means flushed out.
How are they (Blizzard) going to tie a Monk in with The Planes?
Well, something along the lines of Monks being able to, through meditation, reach a higher plane of being and are now able to open gaps into the other planes of existence, both for themselves and for others.
What does the Monk do? What is its party role?
Well, my image of a monk is a melee fighter in light gear, either leather or mail. My idea of the monk would work like this: The monk stays in melee range, and as it attacks it builds up a yet unnamed energy (Yes, exactly like Rage) and it then uses that energy to heal its allies or debuff the enemy. The talent trees would be along those lines as well--healing, debuffing and melee DPS. Just, y'know, with better names.
I realize the idea would need a LOT of work before it could even be remotely usable, but in my opinion it is feasible. Let me know what you guys think. If you hate it tell me, just do it constructively.
EDIT: I feel the need to note that by "open gaps into the other planes of existence, both for themselves and for others" I do not mean a Monk would be required to go into the new areas; there would be NPCs for that.

I've ever played WAR, but it may very well be the exact same thing.

Like Lightnstuff said, there ARE monks in WOW. Not many, but they're there. And if you want to argue numbers with me, see Death Knights--Or Mages.

Would love to see a monk-alike class: A cloth/leather wearing class focusing on melee-combat, by using caster-stats (else, there would have to be a whole new itemization-standard for cloth - which would suck).
As their "power"? Time to look at the good old "Focus" Hunters were meant to have back in the days, perhaps? Semi-energy alike, but the regeneration could be based on spirit and/or motion ... well, you name it. There's loads of options.

Because, Death Knights use runes.

Runemasters are different than Death Knights, do some research. Otherwise you can't really have much right to claim much place on a LORE board.

Because, Death Knights use runes.
Just because DKs use runes doesn't mean that no other class should be able to. You can't take that idea and apply it to mana, so you shouldn't be able to apply it to runes.
But as for the Monk idea: Monks in the traditional sense, are essentially Runemasters in the WoWRPG, so if we were to see a "Monk" class, it would likely be the Runemaster. I realize there are inherent differences, but it's essentially the same basic concept, a warrior-priest/mage who uses unarmed melee combat, buffing, debuffing, and healing, and wears relatively light armor.
