The Economy in WoW

Undercutting really kills the economy, but with so many people using the Auctioneer addon, they don't really even think about it. Just click a button and think "Yay time to wait for gold!". I use it to search, but if I think it undercuts too much I post the old fashioned way.
It doesn't kill the economy. It forces either a readjustment of prices or the expenditure on the part of higher-priced vendors to buy out the auctions and re-list them.
I don't play the auction house. When I post something, I want it to sell, and to sell quickly - and, perhaps most strangely, at a price that I feel is fair to the buyer (i.e., what would
I
be willing to pay for this if I were purchasing it?) - and so I frequently undercut by a greater amount than is suggested by auction mods.
If someone doesn't like it, then they can buy it and re-list it. In either case, I make my gold. In the end, I'm being no more selfish than the person who wants to keep the prices normal - and the only responsibility I have is to my own well-being.

Those who undercut and bot are idiots...
Undercut = You are ripping off the entire community of miners AND YOURSELF. In 1 week thorium has lost 25g worth. And suddenly I cannot find any thorium for three hours. Suddenly on AH 20 stacks are posted on AH, obviously a bot.

It's funny to see all the QQ about undercutting.
Oddly enough I DO agree about undercutting to the extreme. When an item is worth 5 gold (due to typical supply, demand, and/or materials used to craft it) and sells normally/quickly for 5 gold, and someone lists 50 of them for 99silver I find myself wondering why? What does that gain them?
But it's no skin off my nose, the super cheap ones sell off, and a couple days later I sell mine for the usual price.
Read the Greedy Goblin blog sometime. You might learn something.
I have a scribe, 450 inscription, and yes when some clown is listing glyphs at 45-50 gold apiece I undercut like crazy. Even if I sell a glyph for 20 gold that's still a very nice profit margin. I don't care if the guys trying to price gouge for 50 gold don't like it. I am laughing all the way to the mailbox where I collect my gold.

It would be more unfair to demand an artificially high price for items then to allow undercutting to happen and let the market work as it is naturally intended too.
I undercut on everything if I still think its worth it. It gets my item put on the top of the list and it gets my item sold faster. If I see someone selling Dream Shards or Abyss Crystals for 7g or 17g respectively, when the next closest auctions are for 12g and 25g, you can bet I'm buying all those shards and all those crystals and relisting them for 11g 50s and 24g. That's being a smart player and its the easiest way to make money.

You only need to undercut 1% or so. There is no need to drop prices in multiples of gold. I do play the Auction house. It's my 3rd profession. I just like being filthy rich.

You don't need to undercut by 1% at all. Read below.
Honestly, I hate people who undercut...It's stupid, say you have an Herbalist, why would you undercut your own product? Why not just put it in for the same amount as the next guy and you both know it'll eventually get bought. It's setting yourself up for low gold income, you get a stack of Ice Thorn, you go to the AH, notice someone has it in for 25G, instead of putting it in for the same, you drop it 1 Gold in hopes of it getting more attention
I generally "undercut" by submitting the same buyout price for an item, but undercutting the
minimum bid
by 1 copper so that it is listed first - before the others.
Regardless...supply and demand, supply and demand. It's a capatalistic economy. Would you be happy if every gas station charged the same exact amount, and what would the right amount be?
