I'll tell ya what I don't miss. Spending half an hour farming shards to fill up a bag that I can't use for anything else. I was skecptical to begin with but I've not had any problems with the system just yet.

That's the best part of the new system imo, is just how many options it gives for creativity, and they haven't really done much too it.

I could not describe my happiness with my wooden souls in the bag.

dummy's "soul" wooden souls

oh sweet lord yes. I think the qq-ing of what one's class is lacking atm clouds the vision of all the good blizzard has actually done lately. I mean, lol...was there ever a dumber and more cumbersome idea than having to fill up your
bags
with shards to perform normal class actions? And then running out of shards in a raid. "Uhm, sorry guildie x... could you perhaps be so kind as to follow me out of the instance for a prolonged purple-beamed duel?" :)

I can't say that I do miss the old shard system. I rather enjoy the space in my bags.
I mean, other classes didn't have to carry their resources in their bags--I'd like to have seen warriors carrying their rage in their bags. "Oops, I left my rage in the bank, can I get a summon?"

hunters.

Bah, I forgot hunters! But they don't count, their resources stacked in the thousands.

they only stacked that high at the end there, at the point where they already made soul shards a non-issue. hunters used to need at least one bag designated to be a quiver that couldn't hold anything else, often more than one.
not defending the mechanic, it was daft but back in vanilla they at least meant something. they were annoying but they certainly made warlocks different to other classes and cynical warlocks felt they were only brought to raids because they would get there early with a bag full of shards and summon the rest of the 40 man raid - one shard per person! this was also before meeting stones worked as a summon of course. meeting stones then were the LFD mechanic.
having to rely on soul stones was an annoying mechanic but making them trivial (wrath) gutted the whole idea. the current system is far better than either iteration but it just feels half finished. we don't get anything fun to do with them (...yet - i hope).

Mmm, fair enough, I'm still a Wrath newb so the finer points of those mechanics (and their subsequent iterations) are beyond my experiences.
But I do agree, I'm hoping there will be something more to use our current shard system for in the future.

Shards weren't quite a non-issue at the end there... We still had to have shard farming sessions every few bosses, especially as demo. They were a hell of a lot less cumbersome than in times past, but not quite a non-issue.

i suppose i'm speaking in relative terms. the fact that you could get shards without killing things meant you could farm a full bag of shards from any trash and they even allowed you to get shards from dummies or duel a friend on the way back from a wipe.
this was pretty much as close as they could get to a non-issue without altering the system itself. the stupid thing at that point was that aff and destro had tools to easily replenish their shards but neither really needed them while demo had to specifically farm them and needed lots.
either way, i'm thankful the system is dead.

C'mon bank send me my new card quick, this place makes me want to play wow and i havnt played since wotlk.
Which is kinda why i havn't been part of many discussions here recently, because i havn't got a clue anymore.
Lol I tried a private server the other day when i was bored >.> <.< /puke everyone sucked and spells were so bugged i just couldn't handle it. it was a 3.5. because the devs sucked and i hit a 27k conflag in relentless, then i left.
i have a question.
so is the new soulshard system basiclly
"press me before you press a spell and i will make i more op lol" ?
That's basically what the notes made me think.

certain spells are improved by the use of a shard yeah.
summons become instant, healthstones give more health, soul fire is instant, drain life is quicker, searing pain crits etc etc.

Reviving the social thread with a thank you from me and Thror (over at the druid forums) towards asakawa for introducing us to Super Meat Boy (well, kind of) ^_^
Great game, but I sometimes have to stop because a certain level starts getting on my nerves xD
