The thing I like about crit is when my HS crits then i can blast an instant FoL on the tank with SS.
Back to HL, HL. HL, HL, FoL(on SS target) , HL, HL.. refresh ss/beacon as needed...
HL HL HL.......
The mana return from crit is good.
The mana return from mp/5 is good.
The sp/crit/mp5 from INT is king.
Stack it.
Why are we still talking about this?

Why are we still talking about this?
Because a lot of gear choices make you choose between mp5 and crit. And some people were under the impression that crit was close to mp5 as far as mana regen is concerned.

INT IS KING
.
But on another note..
1% of crit requires 45,91 rating, so 46 items points.
46 item points = 27Mp5
What's important to know is that the more crit you have the better getting more will be. This is not true for Mp5 which always gives a static increase.
Haste will also make crit scale better compared to Mp5 since you can get more crits in less time, though you will in turn also waste your mana faster. But that doesn't affect this subject.
So down to the math.
Some assumptions:
10 minute fight.
Casting rotation: FoL FoL, FoL, FoL, HL and repeat. (10 sec rotation, 2 sec of not casting)
No haste (part from lights grace).
27mp5 VS 1% crit
FoL costs 307 mana and will return 92 upon critting
HL costs 1274 mana and will return 382 upon critting
For the duration of the fight you'll gain 3240 mana from the Mp5
For the duration of the fight you'll gain 220,8 mana from FoL crits and 229,2 mana from HL crits adding up to a total of 450 mana from crit.
So in an extremely small scale like this Mp5 > Crit by far (720% better for mana regen).
But lets kick it up a notch and add some more item points and some haste in there.
50% haste (GCD cap)
1080mp5 vs 40% crit
Same rotation as before (now it is a 7,5 sec rotation)
For the duration of the fight you'll gain 129600 mana from the Mp5
For the duration of the fight you'll gain 11776 mana from FoL crits and 12224 mana from HL crits adding up to a total of 24448 mana from crit.
So even when greatly favoring crit by adding haste into the equation you'll get more than 5 times as much mana back from Mp5, for the same amount of item points.

Then i would choose the Haste+mp5 gear until soft cap... then id take the crit + mp5 gear.

Essentially what I said :P
But your post has more kickassery, so I guess you win ;)

See... everyone here agree's that Crit is not the same kind of mana regen as it used to be, and that Mp5 is much better. But the part you're forgetting is that a Crit is double your heal. You seriously don't want your heals to hit twice as hard? I know I do...
My priority still goes: Int>Crit>SP>Mp5>Haste.
If I could always count on my heals critting when it saves a tank's life as opposed to being useless overheal, I'd prefer crit to everything but intellect, as well.
Maybe I should have worded it differently... Need more mannaz? Stack Int. Need more throughput? Stack Crit. Oh shi- where's the Mp5?
(Btw - overheal isn't useless anymore. Beacon of Light thrives on it.)
If you have a DPS who needs a 12k heal and your beacon target has just avoided two hits in a row, your overheal is still useless. Sure, it's useful more often, but overheal on your original target which is also overheal on your beacon target is still useless.

Ummm.... what if he didn't avoid them? Doesn't matter with beacon! hahahahhaha
Beacon kicks ass.
I can keep both tanks alive in VOA all by myself just using beacon. Overheals or not... it ensures when i cast my HL on the MT... the OT is gettin healed up as well.
