Taunt is not affected by spell hit rating. It used to be affected by spell hit rating, but was changed to melee hit rating. Of course, the difference between spell and melee hit rating no longer applies at face value. So, rumor resolved!

well, kinda. it has changed quite a few times, and arideni's history is correct.
however, the thing that seems to still exist is that taunt requires capping the spell hit %, which is much higher than the physical hit %.
my guess is that is why the
glyph of taunt
exists - to close that gap in case you want to be really, really sure taunt doesn't miss.

Yeah, marklartank is right that taunt use spell cap. Melee yellow cap (and 1h cap too) is 9%, but spell is 17%. 9% + 8% (from glyph) = taunt never miss.

The melee hit rating required for bosses or characters +3 levels is 8%, not 9% like before.

ive noticed in an offtank role on both my feral druid and warrior at 70 that on certian bosses that were immune to taunt it took me up to right at the mian tank's threat.
I'm having a hard time thinking of taunt immune bosses in WotLK.
The best example of what you are saying here is Gruul. If you taunted Gruul it would say "immune" but it would still put you even in threat with the MT. The "immune" is only for the redirection of focus, you still get the threat bump. OTing Gruul was just a matter of keeping thunderclap, demoshout, and commanding shout up while spamming taunt.

I'm having a hard time thinking of taunt immune bosses in WotLK
patchwerk.
once i died while OT, then got a brez and ran back in, thinking i would taunt to get back to taking hatefuls. i gained zero threat from taunt.
but yeah, most seem to be tauntable now.

OT threat is not an issue on patchwerk - he attacks person with the most health anyway.

Are you sure Sapphiron is immune. I thought for sure I've had a stupid DK misclick deathgrip or had a DPS start before I could get a hit off and I taunted him back.

not 100%, but last night the MT died and a feral druid popped into bear form and tried to taunt him. it didn't work.
