I am wondering what are the chances of being able to either main heal or main tank in heroics based upon the group makeup using just one spec. Would
this spec
accomplish both roles effectively, or is trying this just a bad idea from the start?

i don't have any clue on the healing part, but for heroic tanking, i have a guide at the top of the paladin forums
it has a basic build in it, but you don't have to follow it exactly to meet the minimum
as for your spec, you don't need any points in deflection for heroic tanking, it helps but you can spend the points more wisely in other areas.
i would be looking at something like
this
for tanking with where you're going.
avenger's shield usually gives about 1k threat lead on the pull so it's crucial for DPS and threat building.

I consulted your guide when trying to figure out the tanking side. So if I picked up some decent gear and followed the spec you posted, I would be set to be able to fill both roles in heroics depending on group need?

like i said, you'd be able to tank it, but i don't know what would happen with healing, you'll have to consult a holy paladin for that

Ideally.. no, not really.
I mean, you'd get away with it as long as your gear was decent for the regular 5-mans and easier heroics like Slave Pens, but the lack of the core Holy Paladin talents (Sanctified Light, Holy Power, Light's Grace) you won't be getting the same amount of mana back from spell crits.

Paladins aren't really good at generalizing, oddly enough. All of our good talents that most feel are required, are too deep to do another job full time as well.
you could tank/heal or DPS/tank or DPS/heal for anything under heroics ;)

because ardent defender is a passive version of the warrior's last stand, you don't really need it unless you're MT'ing a raid, OT and heroics, it's pretty much optional
it's good to have, but it's not too much worth investing points into for a paladin planning to off heal

Interesting build, and interesting story that Seal of light was used for aggro generation.
but it has been established you can tank/heal instances and heroics without speccing to do so.
it's just more efficient if you spec for it
I guess Seal of Light would be more efficient than Seal of Righteousness for AoE tanking, but I don't supposed he used it for single mob tanking.
Thanks for the infor mate

Either be fully in it, with gear or don't bother wasting everyones time.
Well, if you guild has, oh, say Kara on farm. on no one needed that T4, it helps if the holy paladin takes it for tanking gear, or prot paladin takes it for holy gear and help with the newer guildies with heroics and crap.
It'e more valuable than a void crystal
