Starting a Mage, What profession?

This did nothing to discredit my point:
Tailoring is not a requirement to raid.
I'm not getting into semantics, that is and was my point. It just annoys me that a good 90% of the mage population takes this profession for lightweave and then they try to claim that it is best.
Would you like a cookie or a pat on the back for no professions? My first character in the closed beta(0.5) didn't have any either, I'll let you guess why. But I'd already been playing in the F&F alpha, but yeah that was back when leveling actually meant something too. Ah I digress, how funny things get after a few years of playing.
Well no, you might have had a point but that wasn't my point and the reality is; if you want to raid and are starting out you should be putting effort in. Personally I don't care if it annoys you If you're not getting this, then either you're a bad mage, don't care, not a min-maxer. However, if you're putting forth the effort, that's a much bigger issue. If you're putting forth effort, that means you're learning. If you're learning that means you're willing to expand, ask for help. Understanding the finer points of the class and how you're going to benefit the raid overall.
So what's your point and focus in a character if you're going to raid? Are you going to be another slot on the 'team' just being there, or are you going to put effort in. Going to try to 'one-up' the other DPS for &*!@sn'giggles just to have fun one night to keep things interesting so the raid isn't boring? All good stuff occasionally.
But no...you're actually missing the point. Let me fill in the obvious blanks here. Was a mage CL up and through TBC and into wrath. Was a raid leader upto TBC, in 2 different guilds that were in the top 50 in the US. I might, maybe, possibly have an idea of what I'm talking about. :)
