Ok, so you're in the middle of a fight, pewpew, pewpew, and have to change to a short-term target. Like XT's warm, bloody heart. Or a snobold needing a snoscolding, or a nether portal needing to be shut.
What's your rotation for maximum damage in a short window? Let's assume you're already at 5/5 shadow weaving and MB is available. Any change from the regular? Open with SWP to ensure you get maximum damage from it? Or only if the fight will last > X seconds?
Go.

Nether Portal/Volcano/Snobolds - VT then MB to keep Replenishment up. Then DP, then MF, then whatever is ready to cast. I skip SW:P since the duration of a Snobold is short.
XT Heart - VT, MB, SW:P, DP then follow priority. I usually don't DPS the light sparks unless the rest of the ranged are slacking. At 100k health, it is just mana in the toilet.
Mistress of Pain - full rotation like XT. Infernals- I start with VT/MB and then just MF-- that depends on their health, but they die quickly.

I usually do what Sinespe just said. I like to save my DP to let it continue to tick down on the primary target first. When I estimate it's run out (or if you have a DoT tracking mod, see it run out) then I hit the target with DP. I usually start with VT opener and DoT with SW:P most definitely. The lag in damage will allow whoever is tanking it to get a nice lead so you can start putting out some numbers.
