I don't know about the spell itself, but I love the idea of getting powerful spells/items/titles from long quest chains (filled with lore hopefully)

In case of a DoT-effect:
Warlocks start channeling. 5-10 seconds before the effect starts, the tank pulls... It could easily be way too OP.

To counter that, what about this: when the warlock starts channeling, he immediatly get's aggro. So to stop that, you could only use this spell in the middle of a fight and/or with a good aggro building tank.
Counter-counter: From what? He isn't in combat until something is pulled. As long as the timing is right, he'd be able to Soulshatter a few seconds into the fight, and the tank shouldn't have a problem snatching the aggro.

I was just wondering. Wouldn't it be sort of cool for every class to have a spell which is unlocked by completing a quest (or more than 1) which has a very long casting time, but has area changing results? Like a spell for warlocks with a 20 second cast time, but which leaves a 2k ticking dot for 20 seconds on every enemie in a 30 yard vicinity? To make it not too OP, you could say that while casting this sort of spells, interrupt removing effects don't work, so on the first hit you will stop casting. Probably, if you do that, the spell will be underpowered. So I would suggest that all interrupt removing effects have their effects halved, not stacking ofc.
Also, another idea of a spell I'd like, is a channeling spell that doesn't have a duration. It will cost mana over time, and the longer you keep it up, the more damage/healing you do.
Any thoughts about this?
Adding massive damage to massive cost a balanced spell does not make.

I think it'd be kind of cool if there was a fire Mage spell called Blast Off or some-such. It was a 5 second cast time and then it activated, damaging and stunning any enemy within a certain radius and allowing the Mage to fly for like a minute or something. Obviously only castable in Outland and Northrend. It'd be pretty cool if there was like some flame animation coming from their feet or something.

Think about it. A Mage, for instance, is pretty aware of what's going on, what with all that monkeying around with the arcane in the first place.
Normal fantasy type settings say otherwise.
Mages are typically highly intelligent, but not very wise.
Perhaps Spirit would be a more appropriate stat.

We are getting on the RP mechanics of Mind Control, , which are...unclear. How does the spell work? Does it completely attempt to obliterate your mind, replacing it with the priest's? Does it gently prod it, so you *think* you are still under your own control, when in fact, it is the priest who is directing you? Is it a battle of the minds, where for the duration of the spell, the priest controls your body, while you are still aware of everything that happens?
I wouldn't discuss this any further, as WoW doesn't supply us with this kind of information, even in the RPG books (yes?).
On the topic, I personally would like cosmetic spells. For example, a paladin to be able to conjure a sphere of Light, or to engulf himself entirely in Light. Or to make NPCs happy by giving them hope. A mage to be able to conjure harmless fire that may be used for light, a purely cosmetic "Warm" buff, or even as a cooking fire! Warlocks passing through cities making NPCs /cower. Stuff like that... Candy for RPers.

Don't know if someone's responded to this, but I think that it places the preists mind over the top of the victems like a blanket. Dulling their senses to the point where they're only vaugely aware of what the preist is making them do.
