My 2 cents. The difference between a good DK tank and a scrub is made by the way they use their cooldowns.....without using their cooldowns dk's r the worst tanks of them all. On the matter of druids...well they r indeed a mana sponge (i am dualspecced tank/healer on my druid) but a smart druid (smart geared and smart played) can do things pallys and warriors can just dream about. If u r after a plain run u should get a pally or a warrior, if u want to have fun get a druid and if u want to play the lottery get a dk (without checking his spec or his gear b4 entering the instance).

Okay, I'll continue healing DK tanks... Up around level 120 when they've had 60 levels of experience at tanking.
Except that you're assuming pre-BC dungeons are actually completed in 5-man groups rather than having individuals walked through by any Lvl80.
If a person has experience tanking as a warrior, paladin or druid, they'll pick up tanking with a DK relatively quickly. People who have only stuck with healing or dps until WoLK and jumped on the DK bandwagon, however, will have a lot more trouble.
Death Knight tanking is considerably more rigid and unfogiving than any of the standard classes,
in my honest opinion.
Edit-- Looked too much like a list and less like a coherent statement.

The equations seem to still hold true after the years (DK's of course being new)
Warrior = Best Single Target,
poor AOE
Pally = Best AOE,
weak boss-killer
Druid = Good both roles, some fun surprises
DK = Good both roles if played well, high dps from instant attack rotations
Of course no gear or class makes up for a lousy player, so situational considerations are necessary
I have to disagree. Since Patch 3.0, warrior AoE ability has jumped considerably and paladins don't have the same mana and survivability issues they had before.
It's still not perfectly balanced (warrior tanks do take more effort for AoE, etc.), but classes shouldn't be written off for certain roles anymore.

I think what people are forgetting is that even with the correct talents, DK's don't get tanking gear straight out of Ebon Hold... In fact, they pretty much have DPS gear up until Lv 68 or so, when they are getting ready to leave Outlands. That was my experience, anyway. We come straight out of Ebon Hold with tons of attack power and strength and crit chance; hardly anything for defense. So, that's why DK tanks suck until closer to 70 and up. They just don't get the correct tanking gear until later.

I heal a lot because no one else in our guild will, QQ. Of course, this means I've got some experience healing different tanks.
Warriors and Paladins are about equal in my eyes, and are my favourites to heal. As a resto shammy, I can drop Earth Shield on a Warrior or Paladin and then not bother healing them - refresh Earth Shield and drop little heals on the dps, and that's my job done. Very steady damage intake, excellent mitigation, and block handles the rest. Seriously, from a healer perspective, block is king.
Druids I really don't have a problem with. Again, very steady damage intake, lots and lots of dodging, and mucho health for when they do get whacked a couple of times in a row.
DK's.../sigh. I hate to sound like I'm on the "we hate DK's" band wagon, because I'm not. I don't enjoy playing a DK, and I object to the mindset the class seems to attract, but if people want to play them (sensibly), that's fine by me. I object to stupid people, not classes.
Our guild DK's (bar one) have all tanked as other classes before, so they're only new to the class not the concept, and all have skill in the role. Still I find myself having serious panic moments healing them - they're avoidance tanks with very good mitigation (so I hear), so it should be like healing a druid. It just never is, and I really don't know why :/

Part of the reason i started a DK to tank was so i could get as close to 70% avoidance as possible and maintain decent health. They nerfed blade barrier and I just kinda stopped trying. No I'm really not interested in DK DPS.
I'm starting to think they did us a favor by giving us 5% mitigation and taking away 10% of our parry, but I was having so much fun with the concept of being a tank that doesn't need to take damage to replenish resources and can stack avoidance to obscene amounts.

On my dk I had today during a H VH run the holy priest literaly stop healing. Sat there on the last boss dpsing and I did not die. His reason he was bored. I checked and when I was geting hit by that last boss it was for like 1k damage. which I quickly healed when I used a death strike.
In my opinion this is the class that if played 100% to the best of its ability will last the longest
Frost Dk
Pally
Druid
Blood DK
Warrior
Unholy DK
As frost I can pop CDs and take from Emelon a 1k hit period from lightning nova. otherwise its like 10k
Its also fun to watch as a boss in h UP gets the chain

You forget Unholy DKs have a third disease for Death Strike and an instant 40% heal every 2 minutes.
