Arcane:
New talent/ability (1 point):
Brain power
: heals the caster for x (or x% of total health) instantly. 3 or 5 min cd. perhaps reduced by
this
. It would be pretty deep in the tree so Fire/Frost couldn't grab it.
Arcane has a couple of issues in PVP, but i hardly think a self-heal is the way to go.Besides, most PVP mages already have the glyph of Evocation, and taking on another heal further dilutes the class.
I'd prefer more evasion option, making us more
slippery
What i'd really love is new passive ability (learnable at level 30):
Backwards runner: makes you able to run backwards without any speed penalty.
Reason: mages are designed as kiting class, however they can't cast spells while running away from someone because all our spells require us to face the enemy.
Try strafing.
You can still cast at someone who is 90 degrees from you.

Oh and polymorph not healing target would be great also.
They have a spell like that. It is called
hex
. Note the 45 second cooldown and lower casting range. Polymorph not healing the target would be incredibly OP.

how would polymorph not healing the target be op? none of the other CCs heal the target (sap, repentance, cyclone, wyvern sting & freezing trap). in fact, if anything... wyvern sting is OP cause when it breaks it
causes damage
. So give polymorph a cooldown or lower the cast range or something.. as it is right now, poly is the most ridiculous form of CC out there.
hell.. hunters can CC two people at once.. put one to sleep and throw a freezing arrow at someone else. THAT is OP.

Speaking for arcane.
Frost is fine, theres a reason why most pvp mages go frost.
Fire i suppose needs more outs, perhaps blazing speed should be a 1 talent point active ability with a cooldown rather than a RNG, basically a talented nitro boosts.
Arcane just needs more damage survivability. The outs are already there (spammable ranged snare, instant invis). Mana shield needs to work better, but not be just another frost barrier.
Fix arcane fortitute. Either change it entirely ( x% of intellect becomes stamina) or simply buff it in some way ( higher % or make it 1 talent point only) and move it down the arcane tree.
Yeah % damage less after blink is good compared to RNG chance to miss.
And of course, just get rid of the bloat (5 pts arcane stab, 5 pts mind, 5 pts master etc etc)
Though id like to see arcane flows affect mirror image cooldown as well

Mages are fine, they just need to make a new pvp set.
Frost mages need a haste pvp set.
We have a spirit and crit set already, both of which are bad for frost mages. Since Frost is arguably the best pvp spec it would fix things to have a pvp set correctly itemized for frost mages so we wouldn't have to wear a mix of pve and pvp gear. The fix seems pretty simple to me.
P.S. Lowering the duration of blessing of freedom by another 2 seconds wouldn't hurt though :)
What this guy just said.
Mages are 100 % fine, actually one of the only classe's in game which is balanced. The class have a very high skill cap, so if u wanna relax in arena go repick retri or resto druid and press 1,2,3,4 buttoms

Frost mages need a haste pvp set.Please. PLEASE. I hate having to lower the iLvL of my gear just to make sure I have enough haste...
Increased intellect on gear would also alleviate mana issues.
We need some better passive regen. Really. Enduring Winter should restore more mana to the Frost Mage.
^^ all this..
however, unfortunatly, they're nerfing replenishment slightly.. blahhh...

Turn evocation into an Innervate.
I know alot of you just cringed at the thought of changing an iconic mage spell so drastically. But i for one am sick and tired of having to blow cooldowns and wait for a unique opportunity to start using Evocate. Only to have it pushed back by 50% in a single hit or being interrupted altogether.
there aren't as many mages cringing at that as you think.. however, sadly, blizz has already pretty clearly stated that it's NOT what they want to do with it.. i could really give a flip if it was changed in every way, even CALLED innervate.. it needs to be fixed.
I would even be happy if they turned mage armor into something like aspect of the viper. Increases non-casting and casting mana regen at the cost of reduced damage output. The armors need to be reworked anyway. Give frost armor the caster resistance that mage armor has, make mage armor like Aspect of the Viper, and make Molten armor give a passive haste buff as well.. THAT would rock, but it would also be OP probably.. /sigh
hell.. hunters can CC two people at once.. put one to sleep and throw a freezing arrow at someone else. THAT is OP.And they can still Scatter Shot a third one.
forgot about that one.. and we have one rather crummy CC, and a root that is ridiculously easy to break..... gg

I don't know, I think polymorph is fine. Things like Freezing Shot and Scatter Shot are on 30 second cooldowns, Wyvern Sting on 1 minute.
The only CC that even comes close to sheeps is fear. Fear is obviously more useful in every way too, if you look at it. No healing, it makes the target run in a random direction, and they can take a certain amount of damage before it breaks. Blizzard THINKS they have this balanced by giving many classes anti-fear mechanics like Fear Ward, Tremor Totem, Hand of Sacrifice, Will of the Forsaken, and numerous talents that increase fear resistance.
I think our real problem is that we haven't seen any changes to our class, because we're "balanced" damning us to always be second-rate to the OP classes, whatever they may be at the time, as each patch rolls in and everyone else dances above or below us sporadically depending on the changes.

that's true, but that's still 3 CC's that the hunter can throw out almost any time he wants to pick one or the other. and wyvern sting deals a lot of damage when it breaks.. THAT'S what i compare things to when i say poly is crummy.

you're absolutely right about fear.. (especially a priest's psychic scream.. instantly fear 8 people away from you every 30 seconds or so? c'mon.
anyway.. as far as "balance" goes.. you really hit it on the head.. mages are a balanced class in a game of imbalance. it's not exactly fair when our class is "balanced" when there's classes that are ridiculously overpowered (retadins, dks to a lesser extent) and classes that are seriously underpowered (shamans mostly).
it's hard for blizzard to call "balance" on one class when you have all this other imbalance going on in the world around them. I think the class that is seriously THE most balanced are rogues. They have ridiculous burst damage, great sustained damage, they are well represented in pve AND pvp, and they have great survivability in the face of oh @#$@ situations. that's why rogues have so few changes to look forward to in patch 3.2. for all the balance that mages supposedly have, blizz sure is making a lot more changes to our class than they initially suggested in the first patch notes.
