Instances are not made to be solo'd. The only point of soloing Instances is for high levels to get low level greens to enchant, or if you need low level cloth like Linen or Wool. I know you can solo RFC with a ~35 character as I've done it before, and I would assume WC/VC would be doable around 40.

Soloing is a decent money maker all around. Not the BEST way, but it's not horrible. Thing is that there really is no straight forward answer, there are some things I simply can not solo as a 70 hunter that my friend can solo as a 70 warlock, simply because he has DoTs.
So, class makes a difference too, it's not just about levels. Like the big guy said "Man's got to know his limitations." and that's very true. If you are not sure that you can solo an instance, the best thing I could recommend to you is to give it a try, see if you can. You might die, but unless you die in the same area a couple times, I wouldn't give up hope completely.
I know as a 70 hunter I can solo a good deal of the lower areas, but there are a few instances where it is simply not possible for me to solo, too many mobs to handle. and yes, I have CC, but that only goes so far.

Generally good classes for solo'ing instances are those with both decent armour and decent damage, with the ability to heal being a definite plus... fury warriors, paladins, feral druids, enhancement shamans are all good. Hunters do ok as well.
But it just comes down to level difference in the end, even clothies should have no problems solo'ing instances 20+ levels below them. At 60 as a resto druid in decent blue feral gear I had no problems with Scarlet Monastery, and I've heard of lvl 70's solo'ing Strat Undead and Scholomance with the only tricky parts being the end bosses.

As a level 35 Night Elf Druid, I was able to solo WC, good money maker to boot, as
Deviate Scale Belts
and
Gloves of the Fang
sell really well on the alliance side.

I can't call it soloing, but a friend and I (both lvl 70 Hunters) will periodically Duo (yes that means 2) Scholomance for the Ace of Portals.
We've got it down to an entire run in about 45 minutes. Excellent selling items and some good shards as well.

If I remember correctly, I solo'd BFD as my 35 Shaman. Took me three hours to do it, but I did it. I only did it because I had quests I had not completed in my log and wanted to get them done and out of there. =^.^= This was before the nerf to mobs in 2.3 of course. Before I actually new what BFD stood for, I thought it meant Big Freaking Dungeon.
