Hulo, o' rogues of wowhead.
I've had me dwarf woman at 70 for some time now, and I'm wondering how I'm supposed to socket my gear. She's running with a 0/33/28, I made her SOLELY for PvP.
I know I should stack 16 AP in red sockets, since I benefit a lot more from AP than crit. Also, I've been using
Balanced Nightseye
in my blue sockets. Of course I could ignore the socket bonuses and go with 16 AP everywhere, but I love mah stamina D:
Now we're coming to the actual question; yellow sockets. I know a lot of rogues go with
Wicked Noble Topaz
in their red sockets, but since I really don't benefit from crit that much, should I just ignore the socket bonuses unless they're really worth getting and go for 16 AP pretty much everywhere?
Thanks in advance.
P.S. This doesn't need to be a one-question-topic, you can redirect all your questions regarding rogue socketing here, I don't mind ^_^

Unless you can obtain a socket bonus by gemming offensively (in your case, offensively constitutes primarily utilising AP gems) then don't go for it. That is unless it is an exceptional bonus for your situation (such as 4AP or greater, 4 stam or greater).
As for yellow sockets, you should be using resilience gems exclusively.

Are you saying that I should rather socket stamina and resilience, or did I miss your point? As in, 12 stamina, 8 resil, 6 stam 4 resil, 8 ap 4 stam etc?

If the socket is red, use a 16 AP gem.
If the socket is blue, use a 12 stam gem.
If the socket is yellow, use an 8 resilience gem.

So if I understand this correctly, we should ignore the socket bonus unless it is something very good? Its that only for PVP or for PVE as well?
I am interested in the PVE side.
I assume the 3 stats that a raiding rogue should be looking for are hit, agility and AP. Is that correct and should I be socketing with + hit over anything else? Right now my hit rating is around 135 which is crap, that I know.
I currently have around 501 agility, 475 stam, 1562 AP and 29.8% crit and 136 hit rating unbuffed. This is still with my crappy MH quest item dagger, which will be replaced with the vindicators brand after a lifetime of rep grinding. Only 19k rep to go.
So should be focusing on getting + hit rating over the expense of other gems, even ignoring the socket bonus?
For PVE with your current hit rating:
If the socket bonus requires a blue gem then ignore it and socket only rigid dawnstones on that piece.
If the socket bonus is worth going for and doesn't require a blue gem, use a glinting noble topaz for the red socket (and a rigid dawnstone for the yellow slot obviously). If it's something like a stamina bonus just ignore it and socket only rigid dawnstones.
You should be using a relentless earthstorm diamond once you get a decent headpiece with a meta socket. This meta requires 2 blue gems. Use shifting nightseye in your pieces that have a decent socket bonus and require a blue gem (but don't use more than two).

Depending completely on your arena set up, rogues either need mass stam gems if in a dps team.
Otherwise 16AP,8hit,8agil and 4hit/4agil in sockets for pvp and pve.
You do not use 8 hit, 8 agi or 4 hit 4 agi gems in PVP gear.
16AP or 4 agi 6 stam (depending on spec) for red sockets.
12 stam for blue sockets.
8 resilience for yellow sockets.

Ignore last post. Rogues job in pvp is maxed dps. Agility is way more of a bonus to rogues than other classes. As for stam gems?...rogues are meant to do damage not take it. They have evasion/cloak 2x vanish 2x sprint and trinket to prevent them getting nuked half the time. And hit is one of the most important stats in pvp as well as pve. The misses mount up and can add so much extra damage. Maybe check some top rogue teams and see gem choices, you apparently socket for failure.
You're such an idiot.
