So I get to the quest where your supposed to go to Alduins wall with Dalphine and Esbern. I say that we should travel seperatly, I go do a few side quests and after a while I fast travel to a close by location and hoofed it from there. On my way I come across a huge Forsworn camp engaged in a battle with Esbern and Dalphine, Im standing here watching an epic ass battle when all the sudden a freaking dragon attacks making it an epic 3 way battle.
Dalphine and Esbern are unkillable so their running around fighting like a dozen Forsworn, meanwhile the dragon is making passes over the camp blasting everyone with giant blue ice waves, and there are fireballs and arrows wipping up into the sky after the dragon. Then a freaking Hagraven wanders ina s well at some point (but thatw as when most of the Forsworne were dead).
^&*!ing epic.

then that must be a scripted event because I had the exact same thing happen to me. When I got to the forsworn camp (their armor looks AWESOME on female toons :P stripperiffic FTW) there goes esbern and dalphine and then the dragon.
Also, about you wanting to become a mage, dude they are GROSLY overpowered, not only are they absurdly fast to max out (got all 5 schools of magic to 100 in 6 hours, compare that to my first toon, where after 12 hours I had only 2 skills at 100) hit like mac trucks loaded with nuclear missiles, and have a ridiculus amount of utility, and roleplaying evilness posibilities.
its like playing pokemon and using magikarp, except instead of evolving into Gyarados it evolves into f*cking Mewtwo.
What's that? need to be sneaky? no problema, just learn the spell invisibility and voila, you can walk, sprint, run, jump, and dance polka in front of your enemies without them noticing you. You can even cast it on your companions to make them invisible too.
What's that? squishy you say? Mage-armor perk combined with Dragonhide will grant twice the amount of defense an enhance Ebony/Dragonbone armor would.
What's that? weak you say? Daedric two handed sword = 24 base damage (can be brought to 48 with the 2handed weapons perk, and to 60ish if enhance to legendary status by having smithing at 100) Fire Storm spell = 150 base damage, multiplied by the destruction bonus perks, and the bonus damage from having 100 at the skill base, further buffed up by chugging the apropriate potions and using the correct enchants.
Asides from that, mages can resurrect their enemies as undead slaves, conjure elementals of all 3 elements ( fire ice and thunder) asides from dremora lords, undead liches and revenants.
Fighting with magic is boring? you can summon swords 2handed axes and bows made of ethereal energy (that look F*CKING AWESOME, like
this
or
this
) that deal energy damage (READ: bypasses armor entirely) based on your Conjuration skill level, and are every bit as strong as Daedric weapons.
can trow frenzy to make enemies kill each other, fear to make them flee while you happily slash&dice them or burn&scorch&zap them, or watch your mini-army of daedra+atronarchs+undead minions finish them, or boost your allies strenght, health, and valor, on top of being able to cure them and yourself.
can breath or walk on water, asides from having night-vision, thermal vision, spectral vision, and on top of that can freeze+stun+stagger+paralize foes.
yhea, I think mages are kinda OP. And also, it seems just about every other NPC comments how extremely unusual and odd it is to see an ORC mage :P
the only thing (and I mean ONLY) thing they can't do better than the other classes (rogue and warrior) is lockpicking. This time, skyrim unlike oblivion doesn't have an unlock spell, so, for the first time, mages can't do everything better than everyone else.

Finally finished the thieves guild quest.... took me all day... considering all the distractions I found along the way.
I have two questions before I continue:
1) At some point will I stop encountering dragons as I progress through quests? I know that in Oblivion as you complete the main quest, you don't get to go through Oblivion gates anymore.
2) On a scale of 1-10, how important is it that I complete the main quest before I do the dark brotherhood quest line?

Joe Pesci > Robin Hood
Which fits in with the general theme of Skyrim > Oblivion

If I were you, I would do the main quests to the point where you get all three words of Unrelenting Force (Fus Ro Dah). Its just a useful shout. Other than that, there is really nothing that would urge you into the main quest, feel free to do anything you like.
I did not complete the main quest yet, but I believe as a reward for one of the super extremely late quests in the main quest, you get a shout that forces dragons to land. Would be pretty useless if they vanished from the world at that point, wouldn't it?
How did you like the Thieves Guild quests? :)

I know that in Oblivion as you complete the main quest, you don't get to go through Oblivion gates anymore.
no.
there are lore reasons for that too. The oblivion gates were opened due to the dragonflames in the temple of the one being extinguished when the former emperor died, once martin sacrificed himself to relight them, the barriers between tamriel and oblivion were shut tight and so there is no way to open an oblivion gate anymore, just to summon daedra bound in servitude to whatever mage conjured it.
In this game, Alduin returns (sorta, he actually never was killed, there's a reason why nobody has seen him in 4000 years but I dont wanna spoil it much) and then he resurrects ALL the dragons that were slain on the human vs dragon war 4000 years ago.
Once you finish the main campaign, Alduin is gone, but not the dragons, you actually meet them ALL on the highest mountain of skyrim, where they recognize your victory against alduin, bow their heads in reverence and then fly the f*ck out of there trying not to crap themselves in the process. After the main campaign is over, the number of dragons you encounter diminishes somewhat but not much, you will still find them, but having the slow-time shout and dragonrend shout makes them absurdly easy.
2) On a scale of 1-10, how important is it that I complete the main quest before I do the dark brotherhood quest line?
1-10 I'd say 1.
There is nothing compelling about completing the main quest, at least not in the form of physical rewards, unlike oblivion were you get that awesome set of golden armor after the main quest, here you get squat (though the sheer epicness of the main quest is in itself the best reward)
that being said I HIGHLY recomend you do the main quest, if anything because its absurdly cool, epic, and awesome. And take this from a guy who's played over 50 different RPGs I've yet to experience such a satisfactory climatic epic ending since I've played Chronno Trigger on my old SNES.
While they are all awesome on their own right, all the quest-lines are independant from each other and you can complete them in whatever order you like with 1 exception.
the Civil war quest.
That quest will lead to either the defeat of the empire (and thus skyrim leaving the empire and becoming an independant nation) or the defeat of the stormcloaks (And thus the unification of skyrim, the end of the civil war, and skyrim remaining in the empire)
And during the main campaign, lets just say you have to do "something important" that requires both factions to stop fighting for at least a few weeks. So, if during the main quest you haven't completed the civil war yet, you get a very cool quest to broker a truce treaty for both sides, but if you complete the civil war first, supporting either side, then this truce quest is skipped on the main quest.
That is all.
How did you like the Thieves Guild quests? :)
They kept an old cynic like me modestly interested.
dont take this the wrong way bro' but considering how much you love to complain, the fact that you are impressed and entertained by skyrim speaks about just how good this game is xD.

He was an actor famous for playing a lot of tough guy mobster rolls. Kinda like the new Thieves Guild, a lot less into helping the poor and a lot more into helping themselves. Plus they shake people down and such now and dont seem to mind killing quite as much.

RANKKOR! I wish to become a mage. :C Whats the fastest way? I'm all in one-hand.
easiest thing in the world, you can actually max all 5 schools of magic with a handful of spells.
Conjuration: this school focuses on 3 things, A: summoning daedra and atronarchs. B: Raising enemies you slay as your undead slaves (way cooler than it sounds) and C: summoning energy ethereal weapons to be a sorta magic-knight type of character. This is perhaps the easiest one to max out, and its due to a bug. Just get the spell Soul Trap, and spam that on a corpse. Any corpse will do. Cast it over and over again and voila.
Illusion: this is all about manipulating the mind of your foes, and its mostly about CC. You can charm, or fear your enemies, or can use frenzy on them (makes them attack anyone, including other enemies) can use muffle to silence your footsteps completely and invisibility to make you 100% undetectable by foes even when running sprinting, or dancing polka in front of your enemies (SUCK ON THAT sneak skill). This is the second easiest school to max out, just get the spell "Muffle" and spam it, that's it really, just spam it over and over again.
Alteration: arguably the least =O school of magic, this one is needed but its fairly basic, it has your defensive spells (Like oakflesh to get a nice boost to armor, the highest defensive spell is Dragonhide that reduces all physical damage taken by 80% :S) as well as the ability to transmute metals, breath under water, paralize foes, illuminate darkened areas, silencing your spells from all schools so enemies can't hear you, and have thermal vision (detect life) as well as spectral vision (Detect Death). Again this one is an easy one to max out, just get Waterbreating, go to a place with deep enough water, submerge, and spam Waterbreating for about 40 min and presto, its maxed.
Restoration: all about healing and buffing both yourself and your allies, it also has strong anti-undead spells. This one is a bit trickier to max out but there is a way to raise this one and alteration at the same time. Alteration has a spell called equilibrium, its exactly like the warlock spell "Life Tap" in that it will burn health to restore mana. Just equip equilibrium on one hand, and a healing spell on the other, this will allow you to burn up health, thus raising alteration, while restorign mana so you can keep healing yourself up raising restoration.
Destruction: Bread and butter attack school, all your damage will come from this tree (unless you wanna go Fighter-Mage and fight with the energy weapons from Conjuration). This one is the trickiest one to level, but a good way is to find a ledge where enemies can't reach you, and then cast whatever destruction spell you want. As long as you cast destro spells in combat, the skill is raised, even if you dont hit the enemy at all.
As you can see, maxing yourself as a mage is the easiest job in the world. Took me 6 hours to get all 5 schools to 100. =/
and hit like a mac truck loaded with nuclear missiles.

RANKKOR! I need help. I entered a cave, and a vampire gave me the curse (vampirism) and I REALLY need to cleanse it. Do you know the location of a shrine that cleanses everything?
Whiterun, the statue behind the guy preaching about Talos in the center of town (although any shrine will do)
