I don't include greater heal because when my flash heal crits it's rather close to what my Gheal does non crit.Unfair comparison, of course. Compare like with like or you'll find a way to convince yourself of anything.
It is just that as I am doing 25 man Nax...Ah. Meaning zero disrespect, but healing Naxx is much easier than healing Ulduar, even if you're undergeared. The choices get harder as the tanks take more intense amounts of damage.
My rotation for healing would be ... .... but the problem with this rotation is I would be over healing unless all my shields get eaten in less than a second ... ... we mitigate damage so that we don't always have to heal ... ...
You've described very well some of the reasons healers do not treat rotations with much seriousness. It's a reactive sport. If you've found a rotation that works for you, you've probably let it calcify far too much, and will be less able to heal appropriately in more intense and unpredictable scenarios. You have to be aware of your cooldowns, of course, but you have to be limber and ready to make snap decisions that do not line up with any preset cast sequence.

to be honest, with the changes to beacon of light the changes to penance arn't going to be game breaking.

This is hardly a nerf, it will make things a sliver more challenging, but not a deal breaker, and it certainly isnt a big enough nerf to warrant your tank dying.
If thats the case, its you and not the nerf.
It's a nerf. Penance was healing for far too much far too often in comparison to others, and therefore needed to be balanced out, especially for PvP.
However, I agree -- that doesn't mean it's something to QQ about. My biggest complaint is that I hardly look at my cooldowns -- I had a perfect feel for when Penance was back up, and when I could expect to throw it out again. Now my timing is shattered and I'm re-gauging the feel.
I don't think it's going to hurt healing overall. 1.6 seconds is quite a long time in a raid, but nonetheless it's not going to be game-shattering for Disco's. Learn to use that extra GCD for something else -- even if it's just throwing out a Renew when you wouldn't normally have. It's what I plan on doing, since I hardly ever used it. A Renew easily makes up for the HPS loss of the increased cooldown if you didn't use it before.

Ok, so all this crap about disk not holding up with the FH thing is bs. Am i the only disk priest who happened to grab the DA and Grace talents? so the rotation is PW:S, Renew, wait for semi low health, Pennance (PROCS GRACE x3) then FH which heals for more than normal, along witht the renew still running, and the 3% damage reduction talent, it makes disk healing freaking easy...
I'm just saying...

I have no problems doing hardmodes as disc. None.
We have an 8 second cooldown on penance before ulduar, how did you heal back then if you can't now?

Whereas previously single target paladin v disc priest was a very near thing now the disc priest has to work twice as hard to get to the same plateau.
Holy Paladins have always been the best MT healers -- it pains me to admit that, but they really were better.
But what they lacked was any sort of raid help -- they have to spam the MT with heals, whereas Discos will willingly toss PW:S's around the raid, throw out PoM's, and really be able to do much more than just MT heal.
However, now they've been hit by a nerf bat, but then handed an improved Bacon of Light as a consolation prize. I've not done any raiding post-3.2, so I can't speak for my pally healer counter-part, but I know that the Penance change certainly didn't affect me much. It just throws off my timing a little, but it's not that I NEED a lower cooldown -- it'd just be nice, is all.

sorry, but who the hell are you to decided if a threat should die or not? If its getting more replies, then it shouldn't die. Id rather people bring it up and ask a question then make a million new threads about it for us to just point them in this direction anyway?
Using greater heal is fine a lot as you have some haste on top of what you get from BT. I find that in the time it takes for a greater heal to go off even hasted, i can cast 2 or 3 flahs heals which crit for around 7.4k each. Thats a lot
