head - stylin' purple hat (crafted)
neck - mark of the ravenguard (quest reward) --> barbed choker of discipline
shoulders - pvp shoulders (honor reward) --> t4 shoulders
back - thoriumweave cloak (instance drop) --> slikk's cloak of placation
chest - heavy clefthoof (crafted)
wrists - umberhowl's collar (quest reward) --> band of the swift paw
hands - verdant gloves (quest reward) --> t4 gloves
waist - manimal's cinch (quest reward)
legs - heavy clefthoof (crafted)
feet - heavy clefthoof (crafted)
ring - violet signet (provided)
ring - elementium band of the sentry (instance drop) --> shermanar great-ring
trinket - adamantine figurine (instance drop) --> moroes' lucky pocket watch
trinket - commander's badge (rep reward)
weapon - earthwarden (rep reward)
idol - idol of the wild (quest reward) --> idol of terror
this is the best gear that you can get pre-heroics/kara
the pieces following the arrow are the pieces that you should get if you can get into kara runs (with the exception of t4 shoulders), though as a feral tank, there is absolutely nothing you need from gruul's/mag except t4 shoulders
i also suggest socketing your heavy clefthoof set with all +12 stam gems to get that high health that a druid tank needs (you wont be replacing them with t4)
given the # of them being quest rewards...start questing!

imo stylin' purple hat is better than t4 helm for tanking. yes it has more armor, yes you can stick stam gems in there, but the high agility on the stylin purple hat is what makes it appealing for tanking. the hat gives over 3% to dodge alone. armor and hp can only take you so far. if you can't dodge enough attacks it doesnt matter how much HP or armor you have, you will die.

Tier 4 helm is far superior to the Stylin' Purple hat, simply because it's got plenty of more stats. Sure it's lower on agility, but in the long run, that doesn't matter very much. The set-bonuses are better.

yes but you only need 4 pieces for full set bonuses, this can be the replacement for the 5th piece. i personally continued to use heavy clefthoof to tank until i got t5 pieces. t5 > t4 for tanking, it has more armor, even after including the +1400 armor set bonus of t4. and higher agility and stam on each individual piece of gear too.

i do care about health, thats all druids have: health + dodge
and stylin purple hat brings both, compared to t4 helm, which you can only socket for either agi or stam
