Is skinning a good profession for money making? If so, how? I've just started leveling skinning on my hunter, and as I looted Ruined Leather Scraps, I wondered how those would make me any money, since I would require LW to make them into Light Leathers. Or is this just the case at the lower levels?

I think it depends on the server. Over on Duskwood, under cutters keep selling

for the same price that vendors buy for....

Heard its good idd, but i needed the leather to lvl my LW, and if ppl could lvl their LW without going skinning they would pay grand gold for it... so i guess its good if you need gold :)

It's not a difficult concept. Follow if you can:
Skinning serves one crafting profession - leatherworking..
well your somewhat right some of the other professions u listed also require leather for some items like blacksmithing, engineering, and enchanting granted enchanted leather isnt required for them but can help raise the skills fairly easy
But to OP no skinning does not generate that much money compared to mining herbalism.

Mining - Is it a big furry animal?
Is mining a good profession for money making? If so, how? I've just started leveling mining on my hunter, and as I looted Rough Stone, I wondered how those would make me any money, since I would require BS to make them into Rough Grinding Stone. Or is this just the case at the lower levels?

Skinning...
Generally, you will be selling at lower prices. However, you'll have MUCH more supply, because you can skin at a much faster rate than you can gather for mining or herbalism.

Reason why I pick skinning on a first toon on a realm is because I don't have to interrupt leveling to pick herbs/mine. Latter toons always have mining or skinning, depending on my needs.
