Right, I'm looking into making a Sin'dorei male (as much as I insult them) Blood Knight on Argent Dawn (EU).
At the moment, I have his name, and his class....but that's about it. I could do with some help to avoid clichés such as the entire family being wiped out by Arthas, and how to talk about the battle of Sunstrider Isle - where the Blood Elves fought for their survival.

Well, I have been thinking that he was a trainee Paladin, but not very powerful during the invasion. Thinking more, I would probably say his mother and father were craftsmen, who were quite religious (for High Elves) So he wanted to keep them happy.
As for how the Scourge invasion impacted him, he's realised that he is not always safe, and he will probably be very anxious, and slightly paranoid. Would it be unreasonable to say that when the Sunwell was destroyed, he lost contact with the Light and was forced to fight as a typical warrior?
His father was killed by the Orcs in the second war, and his mother died of illness before the plague. He saved his friend, Narissa (My idea for a Sin'dorei priestess) from the Scourge as they fled their village, but his cousins died fighting the Scourge at the gates of Silvermoon.
As for his magical addiction, he suffered badly when the Sunwell was destroyed. He was coming of age at the time of the second war, so now he is around 130 years old.
I may try making a short backstory for him, in the form of a "fanfic" style, just so that I can get my head around it, along with other people who might be further confused about what I've written.

Hehe, sorry, I must have been confused. I suppose it would make much more sense to be more weakened by the loss of the Sunwell, thus unable to call on it.

The other possibilty is that once he was cut off from the arcane he turned to the Light and really found his faith.
You said earlier that he was only a paladin trainee because of his parents, correct? Perhaps, in such blighted times he found that the light aided him which is why he continued on such a difficult path and became a paladin.
Even better. ^_^
How I <3 Wowhead!
Anyway, Tauman, I insult them but I really dislike the way my female paladin holds her shield. If I could give her the Blood Elf male, or Night Elf/Human female shield stance - I would just transfer her over. But I am too obsessed with aesthetics and don't want to sink too much money in one go. ;)

he, doing a backstory is always tricky, I struggled to polish the story of my DK Derah NightSorrow, to purge it of all the clishes and sueish qualitys.
now making a backstory for a tauren paladin, ufffff that will take some guts.
I mean really, elves have had some level of comunion with the light for a long time (elven priests on the third war) but tauren have NEVER in their long long LONG history ever comuned with the light.
to start a new order from scratch, and at the same time make a credible backstory for it it's a true pain in the ass.
but then again, being a tauren paladin, using avenging wraht and be able to scream BLACK BULL WILL GIVE YOU WINGS!, makes it worth it xD.

For Tauren paladins, I would say that they were a druid who heard of the teachings of whats-his-face with An'she and decided to follow them.
