A savage snowstorm ripped through Dun Morogh, not without cause. It was november - typically a time of light sleet and the coming of Winter's Veil for the first time of the season. The brutal weather was caused by an event that had recently occurred thousands of miles away, in an area berated by similar meteorological events.
A thousands deaths... or one murder.
A young man had recently ascended a pillar of ice and donned a helmet of a metal that was entirely foreign to Azeroth. This man had previously slain his father, betrayed his kingdom, and caused the deaths of thousands. But this story is not about that man.
Your petty quarrels only make me stronger...
This story is about an evil much older. About an evil trapped in earthen prisons for eons upon eons, forced to watch as their grand dominion over their swampy world was shattered by strange metallic invaders. About an evil that had united the primal elemental forces of an entire planet before being defeated.
Your friends will abandon you...
The denizens of Azeroth were not aware of this evil, however. After the conflict they had just survived, and the resulting aftershocks, evil and war were pushed to the back of the mind of the mortal peoples.
However, evil and war did remain. As a new coalition of Orcs, Trolls, and Tauren fought their way through the Barrens, the former two thought little of the strange insects and eggs, and the latter raised no qualms.
In the devastated ruins of Dalaran City, three free undead were detained in Lordamere Internment Camp, unaware of the terrible power of the stones they had stolen from their queen.
In the sands of Silithus, a blighted land long abandoned by the Cenarion Circle, an eldritch horror began to stir... to regenerate... to command.
And in the frozen wastes of Northrend, the horrible winter unleashed by the crowning of a new Lich King awakened a strange race from their stone vaults. An new enemy that had slumbered for many long years, as their prisoner entered their minds and twisted their thoughts.
Azeroth is ready to play host to another War of Creation... and the Titans may not be on the same side any longer.

Janela,
I deeply hate to be the one to tell you this, but we're going to need to pull out of the Alterac Region. I don't know the details, but Brohann says Miss Proudmoore can't delay this war any longer. If we don't take what we've found so far and go, we'll come back with nothing - or dead.
I was actually present for the meeting on this, though! I haven't been in the Royal Palace since... bloody hell, since before Uldaman! I think this is actually the first time I've been in there for a legal reason. Anywho, the Senate, Jan! The Senate! I've never actually seem them deliberate before!
It's not that impressive, really. But Vandarr Stormpike was there! The whole damn clan has been assigned to the Valley. I knew Bronzebeard liked us, but he doesn't need to wage a war on our behalf.
Your brother,
Arathanar

(( Okay, OOC time.
In case you haven't realized, this story is set sometime between The Frozen Throne and World of Warcraft.
It is also about the Explorer's League, which was not particularly evident from the IC section, I know. However, non-dwarves won't really be accepted unless the have a really good reason to care about some minor mission the League is undertaking to southern Kalimdor.
Time period-relevant character info, for the uninitiated:
General rule: if there isn't a pre-WoW reason for it, you can't do it, character creation-wise.
Blood elves don't exist in great numbers on Azeroth. I'm going to bar them, unless you give me cookies or a very convincing argument.
Draenei certainly don't exist on Azeroth. They are not allowed, even if you can come up with an incredibly good reason. If they exist, they're Broken or Lost Ones in the southern Eastern Kingdoms. End of story.
No death knights. Nothing has happened that would free death knights from the scourge yet, and the Argent Dawn is just being formed now.
Obscure/RPG/multiple classes ARE allowed, if your backstory supports it. Horde/non-Alliance races ARE allowed, provided they speak Common, or at least Low Common.
Non-Explorer's League dwarves will be accepted in slots for normal EL dwarves.
Thread rules:
No godmodding. This goes without saying, but simply don't act on behalf of another character, unless given a reason to (you won't be).
No one-line posts. If you're going to post a response to a conversation, for example, include exposition in your response, or go into detail of your character's response. If in combat, be descriptive! Use those adjectives! Thesauri (which IS the plural of Thesaurus, I checked!) are your friend.
Mary Sue characters (fiction slang for overpowered characters, or characters that are perfect at everything they do) will be called out. If you continue to Sue, expect random antagonistic actions on the part of the story towards said Sue, to be followed by a thread boot.
Character sheet, which can be modified:
Name:
Gender:
Race:
Class:
Appearance:
Backstory:
You can ommit Appearance and Backstory, but it might cost you if spaces are limited. A first post documenting how you're involved in the thread (especially if you don't say so in your backstory). I'll post an example right after this post. ))

what if we want to side with the Scourge?
Post by
Arathanar
Name
: Arathanar Stouthammer
Gender
: Male
Race
: Ironforge Dwarf
Class
: Prospector, Archaeologist, Marksman.
Appearance
: An average 3'9", Arathanar is the epitome of the League Prospector. He wears a new (and yet still slightly weathered) set of Explorer's League leather gear, complete with pockets full of compasses, papers, keys, and stranger, unidentifiable contraptions.
His once bright orange beard is beginning to fade ever so slightly, and his hair, most often covered by a typical wide-brimmed hat, is obviously beginning to bald. Nonetheless, Arathanar is still fairly fit, with enough power to hold his own well enough in battle, prefering to fight from a ranger with a trusty Blunderbuss.
Backstory
: 121 and aging, Arathanar has been around nearly as long as the League. Joining the fledgling group when it was still a group of drunken miners staying clear of the King's gaze, the young prospector lived through the poisoning of Madoran Bronzebeard, the First and Second Wars, the discovery and flight of Uldaman, and the inception of the League into the Kingdom of Ironforge.
Born to Belia Thundergranite and Dalin Stouthammer, Arathanar was utterly poor at both of his parent's professions (but has since learned some competence in cooking), and relied on the hand of his schoolteacher, a member of the League, to guide him to the path of Archaeology. Since then, he has risen through the ranks and earned the distrust of most of the aristocratic class of Ironforge, and now hopes to lead an expedition to Southern Kalimdor.

what if we want to side with the Scourge?
The Scourge isn't really involved enough in this story to allow that.
I don't know your backstory, Morec, but maybe you were alive at the time? If not, consider playing a dwarf. We're a
growth industry!
cool race to be.

((ooc - hey Arathanar, i know which character's i would like to use, my Sibling toons; Kaesar and Kalistra Sunstorm, but the thing is there High/Blood elves, though I was thinking of tying in their descent into the Hunger during the RP, if I can't use them as they are, I can always just keep them as High Elves instead. Let me know what you think.))

Sorry I haven't posted, everyone. I'm going to try and process this all now, but I most likely will need to wait until tomorrow morning. This post will be edited as processing goes on.
Onak and Ashli - approved, but I'd like to know how you plan to integrate them into the story. I can do the job myself if need be, but if you have a preference, now's the time to speak up.
Adamsm: Eh... if you're willing to go High Elf, I'd say yeah. I assume by Hunger you mean become Wretched?

Wretched whatever you want to call it, some of the High Elves almost fell to it, but with help they did deal with it.

Would a Tauren Hunter fit well into this? I wanted to use Gornak, since "Take It" kinda fell out quickly. Think he's wandering there for Yeti fur (He is mostly a trapper/breeder/skinner)
Okay.

Character:
Kaesar and Kalistra Sunstorm
Gender:
Kaesar Male, Kalistra Female
Race:
High Elves
Class:
Kaesar Priest, Kalistra Mage
Description:
Kaesar and Kalistra Sunstorm, a pair of High Elf twins. The twins are both in their late 500's, and are opposites; Kaesar is a priest of the Light while his sister Kalistra is an arcane mage. The Siblings grew up in Silvermoon, childern of a wealthy family. Kaesar fought in the 2nd War, enjoying the comradire of the Alliance army as they fought back against the "Greenskins". Kalistra prefered to remain at home, assisting with the defenses of the runestones to try to keep the Horde out of the elvish lands.
During the 3rd War, both siblings fought to try to stop the Scourge from destroying their homeland but failed; they fled the war torn nation and sought shelter in the nearby home of a human ally. The human sent the Twins to Ironforge to protect them as the Scourge assaults began again, and they have been there for the past few months, learning more about the other races within the Halls of Explorers.

Gornak, Sunstorm twins, approved.
Flyingshots, I want at least one other dwarf before we start the RP. Probably then.
