Concerning gear homogenization:
Let all plate, mail, leather or cloth items that drop from a particular mob or dungeon have the same stats, but let the player talent pull from those stats to improve their character.
Allow me to bring clarity. A leather chest item from Ice Crown drops and is lvl 261. That item can have stats that look like 150 red power and 150 blue power. Where-as a rogue would have talents that would allow blue power to be multiplied as much as 1.2 to convert to stamina and red power to be multiplied by 1.5 to convert to agility. Other stats could be added to add diversity +hit, + exp or + arp. But all lvl 261 Leather chests would have that basic stat.
A Resto druid would take that same chest item and have talents that would be able to chop and multiply the same item. So the red power would be converted to int and spirit by a ratio and other talents would allow those splits to be multiplied even greater.
Just wondering if this is a terrible idea or one that could be worth while. Other benefits is that a Pally that usually tanks for a raid can now use the same gear once he/ she respecs and be a viable healer.
I can go even further. The reforging they are adding with Cata could be used here to make those stats change even more so. So an item with 150 Blue and 150 red can be changed to 100 blue and 200 red power or something like that.

Gear homogenization takes away from some of the deciding factors of when to change a piece.
I don't like that my bear druid has to roll against DPS ferals and Rogues, and this would only make it worse.
If it was just "STACK AS MUCH BLUE AS YOU CAN" to be a tank or healer, and "STACK RED" to be a DPS, things would get dull. An upgrade would be an upgrade, and there would no longer be any side grades, or gear sets for particular encounters.
Against.

Nah. There are different item pieces with different itemization ratios. As a tank I want to have one set that's full on block rating, and one set that's high on dodge and parry, and preferably has no block rating. If my talents were making every piece I get in the game have the same stats, just in different amounts, things would be boring. Not to mention insufficient.

I agree that all items should not just give the same stats, but that's where your talents and REFORGING can come into play. Let the player decide how he wants to use a particular piece. If a druid talents all his gear to be Stamina (dumb idea), that wouldn't work, because all of his gear is based on his talent spec. Reforge it or have a talent spec that would boost blocking or other stats.
But currently, if you want an item for a block set or whatever, you are limited to getting a specific drop. Why wait. You beat X boss, fix that item to suit your current need.
Concerning rolling against other classes, that won't change, if they'd drop the same amount of gear per raid/ dungeon, you'd have the same odds at getting gear. It was the reason they made the changes they did in the first place.
Concerning DE? You win! There'd be MUCH less items to DE this way.
Like I said, continue to shoot this down. I want to decide if it's worth pitching to Blizzard or just an idea I'll let pass. Right now, I can see arguments that justify what I'm suggesting.
Edit: Allow an item to have a third power (Yellow). One that is moldable by players based on professions/ class. Want +hit see a rogue. Want + Blocking see a blacksmith. So an item with 100 yellow power can be used how you want it. Tell the blacksmith to give you +100 Block rating or tell him to give you +50 so you can use the other 50 for a Skinner to give you + 50 Crit rating.

Aren't we all headed this way in Cataclysm?
