Not even close to that. Spirit is still a good bonus, if you can have it, go for it, but it won't make a difference.
I will still prefer raw SP and crit, then MP5 and then spirit.

My understanding of Spirit, as it pertains to shadow priests, is that it is something of a passive perk of the class, helping in several small areas in a small way. We don't seek it out, instead grabbing it mainly as an added bonus to gear we would usually take anyway. It's a nice stat to have, but it falls to the wayside in the face of several other, more important stats.
Changing Twisted Faith to 20% is a welcome change, but won't change the way shadow priests gear, I imagine. Still, gonna be nice to get an extra 80 spellpower or so.

I wouldn't doubt that you're among the lower DPS in your raids/groups.
Since when do Spriests need to get mana regen? Mp5 does nothing for Spriest DPS, whereas Spirit will give you that extra bit of SP. You're saying that you'd take mana regen over SP?
---------------------
As for the 3.2.2 buff, it's nice that Spriests are getting a bit more SP from it, and it'll be great now that Imp. Spirit Tap will proc from MF too. It'll be up practically 100% of the time, if you've got at least 20% crit.
Now all we need is that spammable nuke Blizz was talking about, and we'll actually have DPS on par with other classes.

We really
don't need
that "spammable nuke". :(
If you want to keep doing crap DPS, fine, but I don't.
Reading from the bottom, how it could be like a "Reverse Arcane Blast" type thing, how about something like this:
Casting Mind Flay will give you a buff/debuff that increases the damage done by "Spell X" for the next two times it is cast.
And without the buff/debuff from Mind Flay, it would do less damage/DPS than Mind Flay. That way, Mind Flay won't be left in the dust, or only used to refresh SW: Pain.

Let's say that one thing Blizz can do to help us out is increase the amount of damage and/or lower the cooldown on MB. This is straightforward and the damage increase is easy to calculate.
But what about the DoTs? I believe a problem here lies with multi-dotting. While for most fights this is a non-issue, if the amount of damage that DoTs did was increased too much, other classes would be complaining about us, for a change.
For example, Gormok. Now this is typically a tank and spank, kill the snobolds and go back to the boss. But as a Shadow Priest you can get a full stack of DoTs on Gormok and then use all but DP on the snobold, refreshing DoTs back on Gormok if you don't kill the snobolds fast enough. To continue:
1) You can DoT up both Acidmaw and Dreadscale.
2) Icehowl is a single target.
3) Lord Jaraxxus has loads of opportunities for multi-dotting.
4) As do the faction champs.
5) Not so much the Twins.
6) But lots of possibilities on Anub'arak.
Now this doesn't fix the burst issue, but I have to believe there is no real solution for that. I think we just have to live with the fact that we are not very burstie. For if we can put out the damage in a short period of time, then we become one of the other caster dps classes.

Paolo's Predictive Predictions of Predictionality
(1) We will indeed get a nuke. It will not be a modification of an existing spell, but something new and expensive to use. For example, consider
Soul Fire
, which has no cooldown, and whose high cost is the reagent as well as the long cast time (lowered by
talents
). Since spriests are not a reagent-based class like warlocks, the likely "expense" of the spell will be a ridiculously high mana cost. Something to ensure we'd be OOM on XT's heart if we spammed it. Something new for spriests to slash their wrists over (not that shadow priests complain at all...just saying).
(2a) The slow-burn nature of the class mechanic will remain. Blizzard wants to keep classes competitive but not identical. Having some new scaling or nuke will not fundamentally change the fact that we are not good target-swappers. Long-ramp-up boss dps is not going away.
(2b) Our performance on multiple targets won't change. We do amazingly well on grand packs of geists and not so well on dual-boss fights. We'll still have to multi-dot, and we'll still be largely a single-target specialist.
(3) Blizzard will find a simple way to improve our scaling with haste. I have no idea how, nor do I particularly care to speculate at that level of granularity. But it will be a modest boost, nothing extreme. And it will be simple.
(4) Bad shadow priests will continue to complain. Apparently there was a sale at Best Buy on new keyboards and many priests bought them. It's the
wrong keyboard
, folks.
(5) Even worse shadow priests will continue their redonkulous attempts to fundamentally redesign the class from the ground up. There must be something terribly wrong with us, since apparently we need a new engine and not just a tune-up.
That is all. You are now free to roam about the cabin.

in general when i play my shadow spec, I definitely change recount window from "DPS" to "Damage Done" and then hope to remain competitive with the instance in review, but from my point of view i would not want another nuke to replace nuke, or really improvement on the dots we currently have, but rather Options. Shadow should have the "improved mana burn" talent, and i suspect that the only reason they don't is because it would be a pain to balance if it didn't require going so deep in disc to get it. But think about it. instead of throwing your mind blast to direct health damage, lets burn the mana enough to actually stop some of those boss abilities that the healers have to struggle through. Or maybe shift us a little more on the warlock side where we have more than one "plague" to choose from than just devouring to suit our playstyle or situation.
does this complicate the rotation, yes. Will it make Spriest more fun...In my opinion yes. Will it make us the top DPS, probably not. Will raid leaders want us in for the new options, depends on if they have good spriest showing them the new tricks they can do....
P.S. I love the mentioning of offensive mass dispell, makes phase one of Thorim alot easier
