This all reminds me of the Portal behind the gate in SW. There's two guards standing outside and you have to swim to get to it. I was hoping it would be another Stockades instance or something similar.

You can get behind the portal bar gate in SW..been there..been up to the unused Flight Pattern in Ironforge. Wonder if they ever plan to do anything with Grim Batol in Wetlands. The path is guarded by elite Dragons. You fly over it on your way there.

whats wall clipping?
Did you ever play the original Doom or Doom II and type in the code idclip? It was a walk through walls code. Wall Clipping just means you can walk through walls.
As soon as the realms come up I'll see if it's still possible for me to get into Old Ironforge using one of the methods I've used in the past. I think they fixed the dueling method.
There used to be two says to get up to the Ironforge Airport. The wall jumping one from the Loch Modan side has been fixed. A guildie was trying to show a way to get there by jumping on the hillside just south of Ironforge gates near the graveyard, but I couldn't manage the jump.

Blizzard fixes the ability to get into these places as they find them - assuming that they are able to do so. For whatever reason, wall clipping due to fear or poly effects is not something that they've been able to resolve.
However, just because you can get there doesn't mean you are allowed to be there.
Don't get me wrong: I really, really wish Blizzard would go back and spruce up Azeroth, and put some of those abandoned areas (Old Ironforge, the Stormwind "housing district" and "heroic" Stockades, the Loch Modan Airport, etc.) into use - but they prefer to focus on creating new content and areas. I don't agree with that attitude, but it's their game :P

You can ride up to the outdoor IF flightmaster location. I was there just a few weeks ago. Guild member took me. Need a mount to do it and time the jumping just right.

The second stockade like instance in SW is called Stormwind Vault. Some time ago, you could enter the castle and walk into the portal. The instance itself was almost the same, the layout was a little bit different. A cording to lore the Vault is where SW keeps the more dangerous criminals(mages. locks ....).
You can still go to Ironforge Airport without anything but a maunt. As far as I remember the place to jump was somewhere behind the Amberstil Ranch or whatever the name was ( the place with the riding trainers), From the airport you could jump down to the dwarven farms in wetlands. Or go to the top of IF where there is a flag.
Grim Batol will probably be available soon. (BTW on the top of the mountain there is a old abandoned tent with hole in the center.)
I think that the best time to add Old Ironforge was now, with all the titan stuff going around but....
And bliiz have already removed some things. For example in Alpha there ware 2 big islands(one of them was called gillijim island or something) west of Booty Bay. They looked quite cool. On one of them there was a flooded village :) They don't exist in wow nowadays. On a side note you can easily visit these two in the Alpha version of wow, just some swimming :)
But on of my personal favorites is in modern day hyjal. :) On the top of the highest mountain(in the whole world i suppose) there is a crashed gnomish plane.... :)
