Sacred Shield Nerf? Seriously?

Just wondering if anyone besides myself ever gets tired of feeling a bit nerfed in a raid all because some kid in his mom's basement got killed too fast in a bg by our "op" abilities. SS is already like trying to stop a fire with a ziplock bag in a raid. If its too OP in battlegrounds, then nerf it for BG's. I run every raid I can every chance I can, but bg's are just boring to me. A matter of personal preference of course, but my point is this.
What would be the harm in completely separating talents, builds, specs, and such for players who enjoy pvp over raiding and vice versa? I am quite certain this question has to have been asked somewhere. They already managed to do it with resilience gear. Why not do it with talents as well? That way, I don't get nerfed by a part of the game I could care less about, and the kid in his mom's basement can continue to play without actually having to learn his class and abilities made to overcome this massive mountain of overpowered one man army known as a pally.

Solution: Make SS not be self-castable without a talent in deep-prot.
Edit: where did the post above me go?

The nerf is also to make sure that a holy paladins SS will be superior to a prot paladin with divine guardian.
I cant believe how many times i've told the tank to get his effing finger off the SS button. Mine might last half the time but it absorbs about twice as much even if he has it talented for 20% more.
It doesnt change anything for you as a holy paladin. It is a nerf for any prot/ret paladins in solo content and during any group/raid that doesn't contain a holy paladin.
IMO they should make it like a blessing but put a CD on it so it cant be used in the arena, and then they make a minor glyph that reduces the CD by 15 minutes since all our minors are worthless (in end game) anyways, we can spare the spot -.-

Paladins pwn in pve. They can solo more than any other class. They are often the last ones left standing in a wipe. They are one of only two classes that can fill all three slots in pve. Unlike a druid however, they do not suffer the limitation of having to "lock" themselves into one shape to do so. How can people complain when they get nerfed? It's blatantly obvious to virtually everyone that (since the DK nerfs) paladins are the last super OP class left both in pvp and pve.
I do agree with part of what you said, the class needs more than just poorly chosen nerfs, they need a talent redesign and re-balancing.

lol youve obviously never played a pally before.
though its true that we do have three specs to choose from, youll never see a tank dps better than another dps with similar gear levels and skill, a dps heal better than other healers, healers tank etc etc.
hell you wont even see ret paladins dps as much as other pure dps classes given that the gear level and skill are the same.
sounds like you're suggesting that we be either a pure class thats only good at one role or stay a hybrid class that sucks at each of the roles we have.
i dont want to make assumptions, but you seem to be bitter over your own crappy performance with your own class and want to push the blame onto a class thats been having its ass handed to them until the pre-WotLK patch that made us a decent class to play again.
/end rant
edit:
They are often the last ones left standing in a wipe.
i really had to lol at this one. if i remember correctly, a wipe is a wipe. the raid failed to take down the boss, everyone died.
does it really matter who died first?

However a paladin tank can effectively heal himself for a short duration
The fact of the matter is, pallys are OP. Everyone knows it except (some) pallys.
No.
Paladin tank cannot heal himself during a raid encounter simply due to the fact that casting eliminates all your avoidance, you'd take more damage than you're healing.
That's about effective as a druid tank popping out of bear form, casting HoT's and popping back in.
Paladins are not completely OP
Holy paladins are OP in tank healing, but UP in raid healing.
Not certain on where prot paladins rank, but DK tanks are above prot paladins for things like soloing.
Ret Paladins are OP in survival, but UP in damage done.

\o/ - Cease your QQing and go read the new damn 3.3 patch notes.
* Flash of Light no longer heals for an additional 100% over 12 sec if the target has the Sacred Shield effect.
* Lay on Hands is now affected by Forbearance and can now be cast on self again
* Infusion of Light now causes your Flash of Light to heal the target for an additional 50/100% over 12 sec.
* Sacred Shield: The damage absorption effect from this ability now triggers only once every 30 seconds.
tl;dr: LoH falls under Forebearance, Sacred Shield no longer has HoT component, but is back to normal otherwise, HoT is now a Holy talent that has nothing at all to do with SS. All very soft nerfs compared to no-self-loh and useless-mode-SS. Begin bawwwing at the very sane changes now.

Perhaps I missed something, why the heck are they making LoH cause forbearance? It's been fine forever, why make some completely pointless idiotic change? I can't see any reason for them to do this beyond "Well lets screw with paladins for fun."

You can't even use it in arena's. BG's, wow so OP. It's a 15+ min cooldown. Blizz needs to get off their sorry butts and stop screwing with paladin PvE just cause of PvP QQ.

W00t!
Rets no longer get the SS heal effect, and are therefore more killable in PvP, as the masses demanded.
Lay on Hands is still useable in raids as the extra 'oh $#17' button when Divine Protection is on CD.
Holy Paladins are buffed in that Flash of Light has a HoT component for all targets (not just SS target).
I'm fairly happy with that - it's much more measured, it better balances
PvP
BGs, without overly compromising PvE. Hopefully, it'll encourage more Holy PvP, as opposed to Prot-healing PvP. Now, can we get Flash of Light HoTs to stack like Lifebloom...? ... ok, never mind...

Sorry, can't BoP you - someone popped LoH on you in the last couple minutes. G to the G.

As long as the game has been out you think Blizzard would have learned how to stop making over-reaching buffs which lead to subsequent over-reaching nerfs. Though I guess the biggest problem is they listen to the playerbase
a little bit too much
. Don't get me wrong, I came from a game like FFXI where the developers act like they don't give two !@#$s about the player so it's nice to see developers who actually care, but I do wish Blizzard would tell people 'no' a little more often. I'm positive that we'd see a lot less stupid nerfs and changes if they told the players to #$%^ off every once in a while.

But then the poor casuals whom they cater too these days who could slam their head on their keyboard and still not hit rtyfghvbn would eventually cry to the point of leaving, i must ask now though where is prots second o @#$% button after the loh changes?

I'd be more happy if they just removed the HoT portion of SS from the game entirely. The HoT is unnoticeable in any content that wasn't Ret PvP. A ticking hot for 300-400 is not going to save anyone. I swear it won't. Infusion of Light: a bloated talent that is now a graveyard for all of their "Holy" ideas.
The LoH change was needed to balance casual PvP. There you go. It's not even a balance issue anywhere but in a place where you can get singled out by 15 people and die instantly.
