All RP servers have their fair share of lolbois and mary-sues, but just persist!
Argent Dawn and Earthen Ring are good for horde by my understanding, just avoid Silvermoon. By all costs.
Here
is Argent Dawn's website for roleplayers to post things RP related.
Also, this
sticky
on WoW-EU's forums can help you make an informed decision about which server is best for you, as everyone has their own favourite servers, or might advertise their own.

There's a difference between a newbie RPer wanting to learn, and a bloody noob out to aggrivate everybody.

No, there are loads of lolbois.
Just name appropriately, such as not "Loldkpwns" or "belf!@#$%".
/s and /y are supposed to be in character, but a lot of people violate the rules and get away with it. The report spam has been used so many times by me in RP servers it is unreal.
In the Low level areas, you will find that there is not much RP, and quite a lot of OOC.
If you read up guides on RPing, look up lore of your characters race etc. And do not claim to be Arthas and Alexstrasza's horny daughter who has a tendency to strip or anything too Rhonin-like.
The EU's servers aren't enforced as much as US I think, but there is an ongoing project known as the OOC Prevention Project.
Here
is it's post on the suggestions board, and is supported by much of the RP community that wish to RP.
The logs Adnaw has linked are atrocious for RP realms, and I would expect to see some of it. I am not sure on where Horde RP can be found, but Stormwind taverns (except the one in old town, usually) are generally good for Alliance.
I would just keep looking on realm forums, and try finding a good RP guild which is willing to teach new RPers to immerse themselves in the Lore. :)

Agreed, I'm on EU RP-PvP Sporregar, and I've yet to see anyone higher than level 20 try and RP :(
There are RP guilds on Sporeggar, but they are smaller, less organized and farther between than on RP servers. And they are supported by 80s.

I'm on, what I am told, was one of the first RP servers. US Scarlet Crusade and I almost never see ANY roleplaying... save maybe in Goldshire and most of it seems to be erp.
Also trade chat is overrun with trolls.
Really thinking of transferring out, the only real concession I see to RPing on this server is you don't get the
REALLY
filthy character names running around everywhere. Just the stupid ones.
Again though, as said on the other thread about Roleplaying servers: The entire server is not in Character all the time. Most RP takes place among groups of friends/guilds and the like; there might be random zone wide RP's that take place, but those would be advertised on the realm forums to let you know.
