Swords are much quicker and easier to level up but are a bit slow when it comes to pvp. So when you hit 70, you should consider re-speccing to daggers.
But, if like me, Ive been swords since I could get my hands on them and it would take a while to get acumstomed to being daggers and havnt done so yet.

If you want a really strong PvE damage output build, go combat swords. With good gear, it's hands-down the best PvE dps you'll get.

For combat rogues what I've been reading is that swords are marginally better for pve due to the extra attacks. Look at almost every highly rated arena rogue and they use 2 maces. There are exceptions, of course, but still... it seems to be the better pvp build. Daggers don't make much sense for combat rogues because SS, which is your bread and butter, generally won't get as much damage with daggers. Slow main hand weapons are best for instant attacks like SS. So, back to mace builds--they aren't as good for pve, generally speaking, because the thing that makes it desirable in pvp (the stun) doesn't work on bosses. Anyway, just my 2 cents.

Combat swords and 41/20 mutilate are currently the strongest specs for pve. And also, backstab is a positional attack so if you have a weak internet connection, pvp will be hell for you :)

the big thing about sword spec is the huge SS attacks, and free attacks. It's more of a pve spec though, so if you're planning on doing a lot of pvp, you might not want to go that route.
There's another topic up about this already with some talent builds.
was going to say that
especially emphasising the extra energy and extra swings you get
