Classes - Pets
* In Patch 3.3, there will be changes to make sure that pets can't be hit by AOEs from bosses but others (PvP) will be able to affect them.
Omg, this is just pure doo-doo.
When do I get immunity to AoE attacks?
Isn't it the whole point in playing BM to try keep your pet alive? There are already talents that give them 75% avoidance chance, so yeah, let's just make the pets invulnerable, so people don't have to learn how to control them.
Okay, enough rant.
I always thought that BM is mostly for levelling-soloing and has some (a lot?) usages in PvP, but in endgame content you should maximize your dps, crit, and what-not, by going MM/Surv and sacrificing BM talents, just like

Lets also not forget the POTENTIALLY huge buff to haste. In the expansion, haste is going to increase the amount of runes, energy and FOCUS that are generated. Faster regen = more big-ass shots = more dps. And which spec is known for its haste?
Yup.
Personally, as a BM hunter I am TERRIFIED of these changes. Why? I envision another early wrath, where BM was OP and got a nerf that made it unplayable for months, and even know cant really compete.
Plus, I really don't want to see EVERYONE playing BM again. I have gotten used to the respect that comes with pulling off good dps with an inferior spec. I also enjoy seeing 3 types of hunters in a raid.
Blizz has sort of shown time and again, that they have no clue how to balance their own game. There is always a crazy powerful class/spec combo that then get nerfed to virtual unplayability--despite the maths and efforts to proove the problem by people on the PTRs. If this happens to BM again, and I fear it might, I think I will give up on my hunter for good and just play my healadin and/or my soon-to-be Worgen (or dwarf--cant deside) shammy.

personally i love the bm spec it seems to be all about what the hunter is in person opinion its about taking your pet out and raping everything. Think about it what is the happiest day for a hunter? lvl 10 you get your pet and dont have to kite or melee anymore pets rule so therefore bm rules nomatter what the dps output its all about the correct spec this is my spec

I still maintain BM could be huge--or it could be terrible--in the next expansion. It all comes down to stats. What scales to pet, how does it scale to pet, how important is haste?
Point 1) Armor pen:
The current bane of the BM hunter, since all high-end gear has it, and it doesnt scale to the pet. It is getting removed from the game anyway, so this will be a non-issue.
"This ability is too confusing and “mathy.” It is being replaced with Mastery, a stat that makes you better at what you do. Mastery in WoW Cataclysm is also applicable to other talents and skills and for other classes."
Point 2) Mastery
This is what will be replacing armor pen. This "makes you better at what you do" is all they say. Will it be simply talents, or will it be on gear? How will it scale to pets? This could be the skill which breaks the spec, if not implimented correctly.
Point 3) Haste
The staple of the BM build, haste is getting a huge buff. Not only will it lower GCDs (at least, they havent said they are gonna change that), but now it will increase your focus regeneration rate. So BMs will regenerate focus like the @#$%ens, which will allow them to get out more big shots--maybe. OR it could make them swim in focus with nothing to do with it, since BM still really only has 3 shots (Steady, arcane and Multi). This could go either way.
"Will increase the rate at which you gain energy, runes, and focus – this is definitely huge! Retribution paladins and Enhancement shaman will have a talent that allows them to take advantage of this benefit – probably to make up for their intelligence and mana."
Point 3a) Pet haste.
BM hunters already have ways to improve the focus regen of their pets, but if the pets will also generate more focus from haste, and if BM hunter give 20% haste to their pets. . .then maybe the Hunters wont need to spec points (or spec as many points) into talents like Bestial Discipline or Go for the Throat. More free points to plug in elsewhere. Also remember, pets have a TON of haste on their own, through talents like frenzy and serpent's swiftness
Point 4) Crit
It has long been said that hunter pets dont get their master's crit. This is both true, and it is misleading. Through talents like cobra strikes, BM pets do get a chunck of their masters crit--the numbers are just hard to calculate. 60% of the time you crit, your pet's next 2 special attacks will crit. Pet crits, in turn, buff the hunter (invigoration), and the raid (ferocious inspiration) leading to a cycle which is quite nice. Honestly, Crit (or lack of it) has never been an issue for BM--remember the days when BM was crazy powerful? Was anyone going "My pet needs more crit" back then? Not really. Now ad a 20% of the hunter's crit, and you have a 20% increased chance for the pet to crit on ALL attacks--not just special ones.
Point 5) Pet Specs into any tree
This could become stupidly powerful, especially in PvP. Imagine a BM hunter, with an exotic worm, and that worm is specced for ferocity. Maybe it wouldn't be a huge buff to the hunters personal dps, but a big chunk of armor debuf would be sweet for the raid as a whole. (This is, of course, more for guilds without a warrior for the same debuff). It also wouldn't kill the hunter's dps, because the worm still does some damage, and would do more as ferocity. We could be seeing the new scopids. In fact, pet specs in any tree buff BM more than any other spec. Any pet with dot ability could become quite powerful. (Until they nerf it, that is)
Point 6) Agility and AP
BM was always at a disadvantage because AP (a stat which doesnt get buffed by things like kings and isnt a hunter's "key" stat) didnt scale as well to the pet as AP. It was also usually a trade-off for the hunter, and for a BM 2AP was better than 1agility. But this is going away in Cataclysm. No more Ap, and agility gives 2 RAP. This could go very well, or very poorly for BM hunters
