Religion Debate

Most people tend to forget one thing when mentioning the three major religions in the world:
they all came from the same geological area!
That means the culture that spawned them were nearly the same.
As for why pork was condemned by those cultures was for a few reasons. One was the fact that a sow will eat her young, cannibalism was frowned on during that time...and still if I remember correctly. Two, the meat caused a strange wasting illness (tape worms) that seemed to suck the life from people. And three is a bit of a rhetorical question, have any of you gone boar hunting? If you have then you know what the meat can look like on a wild pig, like it is being consumed by worms. (Which it is...eww so gross...)
Now to tackle the issue of atheism vs. religion.....
I am a pagan. (For those who think that means I am a witch please go to the back of the class with the pointed cap now.) I do not have a god, nor do I believe in the Christian God. I find the idea of the planet having been created and everything on it having only existed for less that 8,000 years as believable as the Tooth Fairy. But....I have to believe that something started everything at the beginning. God, as many define it, seems ludicrous when looked at from an outside perspective (I consider myself as such), but the total lack of a greater force is the same.
God doesn't exist, but life does.
A creator must, but
I firmly believe that the being that started our universe is watching the whole of it with a clipboard taking notes. We are just part of a larger scheme
,
and not even the biggest or best part. It's just human arrogance that makes us all think that we are the only thing that can be called sentient in the universe or even on Earth
.
So, in my opinion both atheism and religion are wrong
Ladies and gentlemen....The Scientologist.

You called me a what?
Okay, I have been called many things in my life, but never a more vile thing than that!
I am not a Scientologist, they are crackpots out to scam people. I meant that we are kinda like an ant farm to whatever is out there. They watch us and that's it, no divine interventions, or things of that sort. And I use they as a catch all, not speaking of multiple deities.

Paganism ftw.
And I am not phobic of Scientologists, I just have enough brain to realize that their "holy" book is a sci-fi novel.
No, I really meant that, the book was written by L. Ron Hubbard.
I am however afraid of ladders, needles and peeps.

Paganism is a religion.
Therefore in your opinion you're wrong.

Well, to be honest, it seems more understandable to be devoted to a sci-fi novel than a 2000 year old fantasy story. I get what Asylu's saying though, all the religions on Earth are wacky, but you want to have believe that it wasn't just "luck" that we are where we are (but similar processes occurring billions of trillions of times throughout the universe was bound to end of causing something unexpected).

I giggled :P
So did I. ;P
Paganism is the reverence of the natural cycles of the world. It isn't a religion, more like a philosophy really......

Declaring someone a pagan is a mild form of religious war. War may all bad and stuff, still it can be an accurate description of the relation between people.

I dunno. I have a whole group of friends who are pagan/neo-pagan, and it's exactly what I'd call a religion: a belief system revolving around some higher power\.

What? I don't declare anyone anything. And if I were at war with someone, I wouldn't be.

*Looks deep into Hyper's eyes*
Yes. Yes you did
Shakespeare agrees with you:
But from thine eyes my knowledge I derive,
And, constant stars, in them I read such art
As truth and beauty shall together thrive,
If from thyself, to store thou wouldst convert.
