Well my wish came through when Blizzard announced that they were gonna bring back the original stats and remove armor pen, spell power, attack power, mp5 etc...
I really liked it when stats were more simple for classes. Where a warrior only had to stack strength if he wanted to do more DPS. Or a healer had to stack intellect he they wanted to heal better and longer.

I only started playing in July/August last year, so I don't knof
My first character was also a Night Elf, and I was so amazed and at awe with just Shadowglen. The giant tree, and how huge it seemed. (Is there another tree like it?) And I remember rushing to give the poison to that one Night Elf, before I knew about add-ons, and failing once. I felt terrible, lol. And as I progressed to the rest of Teldrassil, the Furbolg den (that I still get lost in, lol), and Darnassus, that totally amazed me. Anytime I hear the music of that zone I feel so much nostalgia.
And after I left, moving to the rest of world, confused about what to do. Oh, it was great.
Makes me want to level again, even though by level 5 I'd be bored with how slow it is.

I miss getting lost in a zone for 2 days because I took a few wrong turns and progressed in a way that didn't reveal new areas on the map, to the point where I was just an arrow in an empty space.
I miss asking a question on the official forums with only posts of people saying they don't know either, until you finally figure it out yourself and receive praise for working it out and sharing it with other people.
I miss staring at a landscape and feel completely isolated despite it's vastness. Or curse to myself, knowing that it'll take ages to get to the other side of the map. hehe

That is something that will never come back though. The birth of a MMO only happen once, and while Blizzard can open new servers where everybody starts from scratch, you can't un-remember all the stuff you already know about the game...
I wholeheartedly agree with this. I think that feeling of awe you get when everything is new and full of promise, is what the majority of people asking for classic servers and the like are really looking for. Unfortunately it's something that simply can't be done, no matter how much we might wish otherwise.
My hope is that when Cataclysm hits, a little of that feeling will return. The whole world is going to be changing. There will be new things to explore, and all new quests. Of course it won't be the same as
new
new, but it's probably as close as we're going to be able to get. I know the newness will wear off before long and I'm already getting a bit nostalgic about the old world (and hoping they don't screw it up), but I'm looking forward to it all the same.

I miss when professions were hard to level, and creating flasks for alchemy, or the best blacksmithing gear was a matter of farming for mats for a while, rather than a quick "Lol, brb need herbz." If anything, blacksmithing is still kinda like that, but regardless...
I also miss the sense of accomplishment that accompanied killing raid bosses, or getting that shiny new lewt, or finally saving up and calling in debts from friends, and getting loans to finally ride that shiny new epic mount, rather than the quick excursion to your main to send over like, 20g.
Most of all, I miss the epicness that was Alterac Valley. When you could enter after school, play for a bit, leave that night, wake up the next morning, go to school again, come back and finish up the same BG that was there when you started it.
Also, that feeling of discovering the world little by little is something that can never be replicated by ANYTHING, not even Cataclysm. I remember running around in Org on my level 12 troll mage (who is currently 72 in Borean), inspecting all the level 60's, and gawking at their epic gear. Now that raids are actually easy, everyone and their grandmothers can be epic geared.

One of the things that Was great to me was the actual Leveling storylines. I was intorduced to the game by a friend, but he moved away and did not play, So I really didnt have people to ask what to do. I played a Gnome mage, and it was Fun, exciting, and even scary (not literally, but trying Not to die, and such). Running through the Snow, not knowing what to expect around the next corner... I used to play with the lights off and the sound really loud to be as emmersed as possible.
IMHO - leveling is about xp now. all about xp. In vanillia, you were paced, and even with a little grinding, you were progressing based on the quests you would get and you would do them all. Now, its been sped up So much, that most people will only end up doing a miniscule amount of the quests. and thats a shame, because it really makes you feel like you are "Doing" something. Not just leveling.

I know what you mean by exciting and scarey, I was on a quest running through the Barrens, this was when you got a mount at level 30, I was a level 20 something, and I was at the edge of my seat, running, and running through the Barrens, crossing my fingers, hoping I wouldn't get spotted by anyone who would have killed me. Kept me at the edge of my seat, lol. Btw, what is 'Vanilla'?

Vanilla is what most of the player base refer to as the original WoW, before The Burning Crusade.

i remember doing my warlock pet quest...getting sent to the barrens via ashenvale (long.long.long.walk for a human back then). i had no freaking idea where i was going and didnt realize there were horde out there until a guard killed me while i walked on the road. AFTER that death, i was scared of every turn i took...not knowing what i would find. the map wasnt opened up yet to most parts so i was blind.
i miss that 'nervous' feeling i got from going to new areas and not knowing what was there or what would spring out and kick my butt.
oh yeah, i miss doing most the zone quests now on my alts...i level way to fast on alts. azureheart levelled by doing almost the entire world but not my alts. i can skip like five to six zones now that i previously did on azureheart. i am glad i got most of the story then...i really liked learning the lore and the 'whys'.

I really don't know much about Old WoW. I started last year on this day. During the Halloween event. I made a Forsaken Priest and was just amazed at the surroundings and area. Then walking into Brill and hearing the Headless Horsemen just chanting his phrases and seeing everyone do the event it seemed like soo much fun.
With that experience I am still playing to this day. World of Warcraft has yet to fail me.
