The idea of trying to raid on dial-up makes me want to gouge out my eyes with spoons and be buried alive. Just reading this thread was enough to make me crawl under my desk and gibber with fear.
The sheer horror...
The sheer horror of just LAUNCHING WoW on dial-up... the idea is enough to send me running to the hills, tearing out my hair, weeping.
How much do you hate yourself, to play WoW or any online game on dial-up? HOW MUCH!
Okay and about there being places where dial-up is the only option - it isn't.
Get satellite. It sucks too, but its miles better than dial-up.

Jisses chill out, give the poor bloke a break. I know internet raises the jerk syndrome by 2000% bcs no one will find you and give you a wallop, but still try to help the guy some also.
Why do you use dial-up?
What other options do you have at the area you can use(broadband, satelitte etc...)?
Check the different options and compare prices, stability on line and speed(you do not have to have a really fast wow line to play good a couple of mb/s should be good enuff)?
I know that Virgin and Brittish tele seems to be somewhat unstable, several of my guildies swears at it bcs it DC them. But sometimes it does work, it is more unstable card i heard.

Y'all need to cool it on the dial-up hate.
No.
While I understand that there are plenty of reasons why someone would use dial-up (geography, coupled with cost of satellite, etc) there's nothing you can say or do to take away my hatred of dial-up.
If they didn't have broadband where I lived, I would move. That's just me. I collect people's old dial-up modems so i can take them into a field by the dozen and smash them with baseball bats, Office Space style.
I feel for the OP. Trying to raid has to suck on dial-up. However, there are some saying its possible; and I believe them. You would have to disable every other running program on that machine, especially anything that would use bandwidth (I wouldn't dare run Ventrilo or anything along with WoW on dial-up). Kill all unnecessary startup processes, disable anything on the machine that launches processes on its own (yes, disabling your antivirus updater/windows update while playing)...
Dude. Move. Get to broadband. =)

Its not always easy to just pick up and move somewhere else because you want broadband. I feel for the OP because I have the same problems, broadband is just not available where I live and I doubt it ever will.
But, I'd like to think that you could do 10 mans on it, though I have not tried personally yet. I remember reading somewhere about people used to do the 40-man raids back on Vanilla WoW with dial up like yours. So, I'd like to think that it is completely possible to do 10 mans now with it. Just like everyone else said, make sure no additional programs are running that eat up bandwidth. It defiently doesn't hurt to try.
