Hey all! I'm still working on my psychology paper on 'video game addiction' for my class! They say write what you know, and I definitely know about WoW addiction! So I was wondering if I could get a few answers from the hardcore gamers on this forum to use in my paper! The
MORE
I get, the
BETTER!
So, here's my question:
Why do you continue to play World of Warcraft? What do you find the game provides that is worth paying the monthly subscription fee?
Please answer honestly! If you want to answer ANONYMOUSLY, please E-mail me at Rivethart @ gmail.com
Oh, and I don't need real names (my Psych 101 teachers is kinda crazy XD He won't mind if I keep my sources anonymous) but if you want to give me a first name I can mention in my paper, I would appreciate it! Thank you!

I play because its fun and relaxing after a full day of work. You kind of lose the ability to think about anything else you need to do because you're so drawn into and focused on what your in game character is doing. You get interaction from friends you meet online and guildmates so it never grows stale. It's more interactive than sitting on the couch watching Law & Order for 5 hours a night!
The fee is nothing compared to the cost of other items. Potentially 720 hours of game play (yes, I know no one plays 24 hours a day!) per month for $12-$15. Compare that to a 2 hour movie at the theater for $9?

I'm too tired, bullet point it is:
Its fun - Its safer than going out - Its cheaper than going out - I can meet thousand of people (good and bad) from my home and comfy chair.
And the main two, I'm addicted and its not reality, but it also kinda is (joke).
RL name - Fraser.
EDIT: You should C&P the paper after you hand it in.

I'm not 100% hardcore, but it's cheaper than any other addiction.

Interesting idea - maybe I will post my report up on-line, once I've gotten it graded!

I play WoW (on average) 5+ hours a day but it's by no means an addiciton to me. I socialize IRL, it doesn't take away from my studies, and I walk away for ~2 or so months every 3 months when it starts to bore me, then I'll log on when I have nothing else to do and slowly get back in to it, until it bores me again. I have no difficulty logging off or being away from it for long periods of time etc.

Cool im a psychologist too! (I dont like Freud btw lol )
So im gladly gonna answer your questions, good luck on your work seems great.
Im no hardcore gamer tho...
I only play when i got nothing else to do. Still i love the game.
Well, what addicts me to the game and makes me keep paying and "wasting" my time to it its because im a fan of RPG's, and when i see MMORPG makes more realsitic with something more "materialized" to live the imagination. Im a fan of the Warcraft lore too, which makes the game even more exciting knowimg my character is doing his part in the world of Azeroth, slaying undead, becoming and Ambassor, helping Sylvannas and Thrall save undercity... this kind of stuff. Thats the thing that makes me play most.
On second hand the raids and the gears. Its great to team up with people from everywhere to destroy the enemies of the game as a team. As a mage DPS'er its damn nice to see the group getting a boss down, with everyone doing their roles greatly you just see all the "booms", the HP going down and the fight rolling.
Well, thats it. Im a RPG fan and playing this game is more like something to do as a leisure.
My name is Luis, im 19 years old and a student. I played this game 2 months in 2006 and ive came back to play since December 2008.

In Norway, it costs me about 100kr. a month to play wow. (No we dont use euroes)
A normal game costs about 500-600kr, so actually I think I am saving money by playing wow instead of buying new games all the time.
Other factors:
Its online, love to play with other people
Blizzard is updating it all the time, always something new to explore.
Its simply a really fun and exciting game.

I play because it’s a fun relaxing hobby after school or babysitting. I’m no hardcore gamer but I do play it 3-4 hours strait sometimes lol. I love how you can play with your friends on it me and my friend have gotten a lot closer now and I enjoy talking to my guild, I love how you get to create your own character, and then jump in find a group and heal a virtual dungeon on my disc priestess:) its like there’s always something to do on wow.
Idk what makes the game so good I think its the dungeons and talking for me when I start a dungeon or raid I start playing for at least 1-4 hours and the graphics are nice I love shooting penance my fave heal, I cast it just cuz it looks neat sometimes. After playing I’m always talking about how fun it was with my friend, then horde vs. alliance he picks on me for being alliance lol he’s more a hordie...I Prolly deserve it I’m always picking on him lmao. Ive been playing for almost a year i think. Its much better than anyother game Ive played the only other hobby i do as much is the trampoline. I love doing flips but sometimes i just wanna sit down, so i play warcraft and talk to my friend at the same time.
Well that’s about it, my names Brittany I’m 14 and turning 15 real soon.
