Question about Wind Shock

I'm not a noob by any means. Though shamans are a fairly new class to me. I'm currently sitting at 66.
Today, I was redoing my UI and got around to my bars. I was putting my spells back on when I saw Wind Shock. I can't, for the life of me, ever remember even using this spell, let alone putting it on my bar.
Is it useful? Is there something I'm not seeing about it? I'd love some feedback =)

Its just a threat-dropper in case you pull aggro.

Ah, I see. I suppose I should add it to my bar, just in case.
The fact that it isn't affected by the GCD interests me, though. I can see the uses.
Thanks for the answers, fellas.

It's the shaman's interrupt which is off the GCD, and it works as a threatdump in PvE.
Basically, yes, Earthshock is preferable for PvP, but since that isn't off the GCD, Windshock has its uses.

Actually, it's quite opposite.
Earth Shock
is very situational in PvP. Notice the amount of mana saved when you use
Wind Shock
.
While the ~1000 damage is nice, using this mainly over
Wind Shock
will oom you too fast.

As it's been said, it's a good threat dump. But also, may just be me here, I use it on the Assembly of Iron fight if i'm interrupting Stormcaller purely because it's off the GCD and the mana cost - granted I could just pop rage to get mana back but it's one less thing to worry about at least :)

Windshock is used as a PvE threat dump, and an interrupt for restoration shamans. I often get put on the tank on the stormcaller because I can windshock his spells.
As for PvP, it is used by
restoration shamans
since it costs far less mana (75% less or something) and is off the GCD.
Most PvP oriented elemental shamans use Glyph of shocking anyways (reduce the time for a flameshock/lavaburst), meaning that earthshock is plain better for them.

Eh, what? Both costs 18% base mana - I really don't see how that is going to end up being a "notable amount of mana saved". :)
... also, your second Wind Shock links to Earth Shock - which is even more confusing.

its 18% base mana versus 8%, pretty significant difference. Shamanistic Focus drops shock cost a futher 45%, making windshock very easy on the manapool. The GCD difference does not really matter, elemental PvP shamans will glyph their shocks off the GCD, and enhance shamans use earthshock as part of a normal damage rotation.

Wind Shock works well if you're assigned to interrupting in a raid. Except if you're enhancement, using Earth Shock is not the most optimal choice, and even if you are enhancement, you may choose to use Wind Shock to interrupt anyway, due to to it being off the GCD (but still triggering the shock cooldown).
