Purging/Deleting on this site is a little overzealous

I completely understand why some posts are deleted, and I'm thankful wowhead isn't thottbot. No one wants to read three pages of people arguing over whether an item should go to Hunters or not.
But some of the posts that are deleted just baffle me. For instance, a couple months ago I wrote a helpful post for people going after the Kirin Tor Familiar, talking about spawn times and urging people to keep making circuits after they see spawns because the one spawn could be the start of a staggered spawn rotation on the other books.
It was good information -- that's exactly how I got my Familiar, with the exception of the very last book spawn, which I camped. I posted it because I thought other players trying to get their Familiar would be helped by it.
It seems like, in the rush to delete the garbage, some helpful information gets deleted too.
I've seen extremely helpful posts in other threads get deleted because they (accidentally) set off loot discussions that ran against site policy. Fine. Delete the posts afterward, but leave the helpful information -- the original poster was just trying to be helpful, and they did not choose to have other posters use their comments as a basis for arguing about loot.
And my only other gripe is the downranking and deleting of context-specific posts. If there are eight posts responding to a question by another poster, often the question gets deleted because it's "wrong." But then we can't see the original question, so we're left reading a bunch of answers to a question we can only guess about.

To mob, this thread is of incredible value, i often find myself leaving abusive messages when random idiots rate me down because i don't think the 2h i'd reccomend to either a dk tank or a fury warrior should go to a hunter. Its incredibley pathetic how childish people on these forums are, it often gets you down when you help somebody and find yourself being purged for no decent reason.

Sadly that's what you get when you put information control in the hands of the users, many of which haven't even gotten out of puberty yet. For every bad user on this site there's a handful of good, valuable and rational ones though, so don't lose hope!

Either most of you are misinformed or new to Wowhead.

You're right, the system isn't perfect, but it's usually not the moderators deleting comments, and moderators don't usually pay attention to comments unless they are reported. It's the users that delete them, and if there are more users who want your comments gone than the number of users who are thankful for your comments, as hurtful as it may be, let it go.
The Wowhead system actually has a function to prevent that. If a comment has a reply that's not purged sittin on top of it, it will only be hidden instead of deleted/purged.
Yes, the people who downrate comments are @#$%^&rbags.
Only the ones who delete completely relavent, non-repeating, well written ones without any reason. The rest are fine.

The problem here is that most people assume right away that agility + AP = hunter weapon without question. The only way to prevent that is to show with math/links, preferably with a comparison of an alternative weapon. That and maybe a comment like "Increasing the tank's survivability and threat = raid threat.
When the readers disagree with you, it's your burden to prove you're right, not theirs.
I'm baffled as to how some posts get voted up as well. I think posts should take more than a single negative mark to be purged.
Posts get voted up when people enjoy them, for entertainment or knowledge.
It also takes 2 negative marks to get purged, all scores start at +1 and are purged at -1
I read that post and found it Very helpful.
So I assume you rated it up?

So I assume you rated it up?
This is the crux of the issue. People read a helpful post and say, "Wow, that was a helpful post." They read a crappy post and say,"Where is the ban hammer." Also, with having just users moderate the system, someone could track down one users comments and downgrade them all, or just go on a downgrade parade because they feel like it.
Now compare the Wowhead system to another user moderated site, Ebay. You only get to leave feedback on an item you purchased, and that feedback can be challenged/explained. Thus, the flaws in the Wowhead system are not implicit in the Ebay system.
So what is a solution?
Wowhead should track the number/frequency/target of users that upgrade/downgrade posts. Any excess here
MAY
indicate abuse of the system.
Institute a bar that needs to be reached before a user can upgrade/downgrade a post. This could be by number of comments/posts made, by length of time a user has been a registered user, or some other non-arbitrary means.
Institute a complaint resolution system (like feedback@wowhead.com...see, these guys are on the ball.)

Okay, you need a green person here.
Xystophoros
, your concern is 100% legit. However there isn't much we can do, to be honest... Your comment has been "
Purged
" (as opposed to "
Deleted
"), which means that a number of users have decided that it is at least one of the following:
Redundant - somebody with higher comment rating (usually 10+, for green) had this information there before you.
Useless - your comment was not helpful. This doesn't seem to be the case with you however.
My opinion? Your comment was redundant, and if it was at its default rating of +1, 2 users thought the same and downranked it. Now, don't get me wrong - I am not saying that it was redundant, only that two other people found it so.
If you truly believe the information in your comment was unique and valuable, let me know and I will talk to one of the admins and see if we can bring it back up. I personally can't (I think).

What I don't understand though is that some questions on pages like "how does this X spell effect ___" and someone follows up with the answer. However, then that original comment gets down ranked into oblivion and then erased off the page. It's nice to have the question not down rated then the reply under it. Saves people searching.
Answer questions in complete sentences. Fixes the problem.

Trolling in the Feedback forum is not recommended kiddie :)
Q: Is this socket bonus worth it.
A: No.
Question gets deleted, guess what? The answer is worthless.
Solution?

A: The socket bonus is not worth it.

oh my you are such a bad troll.
The quotations are an example. No where in post does it say this is exactly how someone is going to ask a question.
God you are making yourself look awful.
I have a suggestion.
WoWhead /ignore feature please.
Honestly what's your problem, dude?
You presented a problem, and suggested a solution. I suggested an easier solution: answers should be rephrased to include the question in statement form.
Grow up.

, which pages are popular? Every class' spell at its last rank? Every important daily quest? Maybe all of the dungeons and raids? Or zones? I hope you see where the problem is...
