You should not have joined that raid. As soon as the words 'reserve' and 'loot' are put into the same sentence for a PuG raid, that is your clue to GTFO of that raid. Otherwise, prepare to be shafted... badly.
Well, all is not lost, you still got some badges, and grats on the TL Protodrake you picked up before that raid.

I have no idea how they got people to join that group as a pug with those rules, that's the most ridiculous and unfair thing i've ever heard. Never ever raid with that guild again.

if something is important use vent to communicate it.
THere is a lot going on in a raid, and sometimes things get lost or ignored by the raid leader. If the raid leader goes against something he/she said, then find a new raid.
This just sounds like u joined something u didn't realize u were getting into, always get clear straight answers from the RL in a PUG and hold them to it.

Like has been said, when loot is reserved gtfo unles it's f.ex. "I need the bracers from X, thats it", if he keeps on to that I would stil join without a problem even if I needed it f.ex.(change for it to drop+change for me winning to roll is about 1/20, no need to leave a good PuG for that).
About vent versus raidchat, my guild knows I rarely talk in vent, I use raidchat so often I'm the only one talking in /raid so it often looks like I'm talking to nobody :p.
following raidchat is always a good idea, so is saying tactics on progression nights in /raid
I'm often coppieing simple facts from wowhead.
Makes stuf very easy, also, on vent you can mis things, on raidchat you can't, its written on the screen no discussion, thats why if I lead a PuG often prefere it.

We've all been there, or heard of someone who has. The sad thig is you were right when you said you had to have clarity from RL/ML and can't "trust" the other guildies. As screwed up as that is, its a fact, ML/RL decides on loot and set the rules clearly beforehand, not the other randoms in the raid.
Good learning experience, at least. Imo nowt wrong with reserving items, so long as you know what they are beforehand and they don't cross into your loot tables. If there's more than one that does, then don't bother going if your aim is loot tho'. Say if a progression guild needs to pug someone but reserves a tank item, seems hunky dory to me, would argue, so long as the loot rules are clear, each pug has the choice to join or not to join.
Yes they shafted you; but it was your "fault".

The only thing to do now is post a thread on the Server forums of the official WoW website, describing what happened in full detail, along with the Leader's name, Guild name, etc... and spam trade for a while about them.

You got used, you but you allowed it. Don't PuG with the guild again.
To protect yourself from being used, find out exactly what bosses they intend to down and make it known to the RL which drops you'd like to roll on. If the RL has a problem with that, you'll know to GTFO.
My guild recently pugged a rogue for KT when our hunter had to leave. The rogue told us what he wanted to roll on, we wiped once, downed KT on the next attempt, and the rogue's necklace dropped. Only one other guild member was rolling on it, and the rogue won it. Gratz rogue!
I guess the moral of the story is that if you're not given as fair a chance as everyone else is given, you're probably being used.
