Ok so I was looking at the "rate the pally above you" thread and someone had posted that Protection pally's don't need strength. This is confusing to me because everyone in my guild always keeps telling me I should get the armor with strength because its good AP.
Someone help me out? My pally is
here if it helps to look at. She's only 48 but I'd hate to be going for all the wrong gear LOL.

since you're still in pre-BC itemization period (I'm referring to before level 57)
strength and attack power is the only way for you to stack threat, as stacking spell damage isn't easy with most spell damage coming from cloth items
but once you do reach tBC itemization
1 str = 2 AP = 0.14 DPS = 0.14 TPS
spell damage has 9.2% coefficient in SoR for the swing timer DPS, 5% coefficient per charge of holy shield and 6.7% per tick of consecration, spell damage also has 0.855 itemization value, compared to strength with 1.000
1 spell damage = 0.092 DPS through SoR = 0.1748 TPS through SoR, this is ingoring the benefit from Consecration and Holy Shield
1.748/0.855 for equalization of itemization = 0.204 TPS
if you add in JotC, HS, consecration, etc, you'll easily be looking at 0.25~0.35 TPS, roughly the double of strength
DPS classes will easily over-agrro if you only stack strength and stamina
when you have access to tBC items, you should be going for a spell damage weapon and high stam on the rest of your gear, strength just doesn't cut it for paladin tanking
btw... my talents for a protadin at level 48 would look something like
this
