There's nothing wrong with Alchemy, you'll love having herbalism/alchemy at a higher level (especially if you raid or PVE a lot, even if you don't...selling to those who do is very profitable).
Reasons to change? What are your goals...casual/non-raid play? You may find other professions better (such as crafting odds and ends for yourself, to compensate for loot limitation). If you do raid, it can help you gear up for tanking, or for pvp: be a weaponsmith.
Engineering is a good profession for little tricks and gadgets, goes with mining. You can even get a helmet (one for any type of talent spec).
Jewelcrafting has several options while you level up that are a bit more useful (they had time to tune this profession more carefully). Still has useful things, including business at high levels.
I think you can see the trend here, think down the road what you will be doing & what may benefit you most.

I recommended Blacksmithing because of the many various armors you can craft if you do not raid...I remember when I was playing, Red Havoc Boots were one of the best, you could only get them by crafting from an SSC pattern. So, as a non-raiding player or casual it just may be a good choice for you. Also, you could go weaponsmith (as I did) for your pvp options!
Engineering is just engineering; gadgets, ammo, etc. whatever you like to craft. The new mounts are cool, but I doubt very many MT's have engineering (with mining, at least).

I got rid of herbalism for BS. I am glad I have BS, but I really mis being abe to get all the herbs for my elixirs and things. Now I have to spend more money because I can't gather them on my own. And then I got rid of mining for enchanting.
I raid, so I try to get every little bit to help me in my raiding.
Bulwark of he ancient kings for BS, and +4 all stats on rings.
That is a LOT of money for a couple small buffs but to me it was worth it. dailys are a good way to make money if you can't gether too.
