1. You won't always be at the top as a paladin. We aren't the best healers ever because we have beacon.
2. If you're way ahead on the healing meters and also way ahead on the overhealing meters and having some mana problems it probably means you don't trust the other healers enough. My guess is you were facerolling heals like crazy and two healers with more haste than you were sniping a lot of your heals.
3. If you're judging light all of the dps who aren't currently taking damage are pushing your overheal up. I've had fights where literally a third of my overheal was just Judgment of Light ticks on dps who were successfully avoiding standing in the fire.

You'll get this a lot in regards to healing a meters: Healing meters are almost completely useless.
Yes, there is some information you can glean from them, but simply looking at effective healing and overhealing can be deceptive.
Paladins have dumb heals which means more overheal because the people who are getting our heals may not really need them (HL splash, Beacon target, JoL).
The other classes have smarter heals. Shammy chain heal will choose a next target if it meats certain health criteria for example. This reduces how much those classes overheal because if they use those spells, its more likely that someone who needed a heal is getting it.
With that aside, you are looking at the meters correctly right now, trying to determine if there is something you can do in your healing style that can make you a little bit more efficient.
What you can try to do is become less spammy (as long as it doesn't result in deaths). I still have a tendency to be over spammy with my heals when I don't need to. While I'm not HL spamming constantly, I do fill the gaps between HL with a lot of FoL that are probably not needed. As a result, my overheals would probably be incredibly high. By pausing a little and reacting better to incoming damage, meaning you don't necessarily need to always be casting something, you can reduce your overheal and reduce the amount of mana used resulting in better mana efficiency.
However, the key thing that does not show up on Healing Meters is: Did your targets survive.
If they did and you still have mana to spare, then you're doing thing correctly. If this is the case and you're looking to become more efficient, make sure that your changes do not result in deaths. Its a very fine line you have to be wary of.
