NO I Do NOT mean farming of any kind... -.-
I mean our toons should get bored if we're gone for more then an hour and go wonder off some place!
Like Explore a zone we've previously visited or go dancing in a well populated area, or even go do a little PvP in a zone designated as such. While our toons are in this Stircrazy state, they would be considered a Flagged NPC in-game, but can not give or gain any gold, honor, achievements, or reputation of any kind. If the toon is killed by another player in this state, they respawn at the nearest area and immediately flee the zone to avoid additional hostilities.
It would be funny to log into our toons once in awhile and find them wondering around Terokar forest, or dancing in the middle of the AH. ^.^
What you guy's think? o.O

I thought this would be more about a system like EVE or something.
Its a novel idea, but some might be annoyed to have left there toon in town, to later find it miles away in un goro or something.
a plausible idea would to have a system like FFXI and have a bazaar mode, when your toon turns into a vendor and earns you money. The only thing I don't like about that is screen lag. on the other hand, it would make cities seem more like cities.

Or find your level 1 druid corpse camped half way through Icecrown, nothing major. I'm up for it.
You've been to icecrown on a level 1 before? Really.. I've gone from Darnasus to Ironforge on a level 5 prior to them adding SW harbor and That was hard enough with all the dying. I cant imagine how hard it would be to get through all of northrend on a level 1... o.O

Or we can keep this a good game, and not have 7,000 character-npcs wandering.
It would not only be nearly impossible to script this right, but it would also be annoying enough to put me into a homicidal rage. Nothing like waking up to find you have logged-in several zones from where you logged out, the alliance is spawn camping you, and all your durability reads 0/xxx from walking into random icecrown-elite-scourge zones.
I guess you missed the part about the toons in question being marked as NPC's, and therefor not giving any honor, gold, or any other such thing to either the toon or any players that should happen to stumble upon them during this time. I suppose its possible they could give a little bit of XP to any players that kill them during this time, but no more then a regular mob would. Therefor camping them during this time would be a little silly as they give no honor or gold, especially when there are far better things to do such as dailies or actual questing.
As for the lag, it might also be possible to employ the phasing engine during this time, and the toons involved would be moved to an "offline server" similar to a battleground or something like that.
Once the player themselves log back in, the toon is then moved back to the regular server and the area which the payer had previously left them if the player so desires.

Gentlemen
I played FFXI for a few years, and don't recall many bazaars being in towns due to the taxes that were enforced if you were in either Jeuno, or Whitegate(Main cities). Having a similar system would also be useless for Wow due to the auction house system moreso than anything else. In FFXI you weren't allowed to put some items on the Auction House and were forced to advertise in yells(bad idea) or Bazaar them which would involve leaving your character in an area right outside of the main city to avoid taxes. Really in terms of the economy the two have virtually nothing in common, a bazaar system would be useless, because you could just put items up on the Auction House which is more compact and allows the person to find what they're looking for more easily anyway.

My character is already doing stuff offline. She lives her life, meets new people and even ends up in bed with some. If I ask enough, she might tell me of it, because I'm nothing but a voice in her head to suggest things.

It simply amazes me the number of people that are comparing this idea to some method of offline Farming or Automated Vendor.. Do you people not know how to Read Correctly?
I've stated a number of times that the toons in question WOULD NOT be able to use the AH, or farm any sort of crafting materials, or honor, gold, or any other such form of farming.
Also, as NePhie was kind enough to point out, this would not generate as much lag as peep's seem to think. There might be a little bit more stress on the servers themselves to perform these actions, but I dont see any reason why there would be any lag on the client side machines, Especially if they employed the phasing engine for this purpose.
