OOC Tapping in a Spirit Set?

I'm still leveling but noticed spirit is almost useless in combat. I'm thinking about creating a second set of gear maxing out spirit, then using a macro to switch in and out while Spirit Tap is active out of combat. If I have enough int and dmg on my combat set, I might only need to switch sets on a Spirit Tap every few fights.
I would be more effective during each fight and regening more mana than normal if I have a set completely dedicated to spirit. The only downside I see is suffering through a longer fight where I'm not getting solid regen from the in-combat kills.
Watch, this will be something that everybody does that I just thought I discovered on my own. Thoughts, experience, laughter?

This has been around far longer then you know. Mages were been doing it before Evocation was changed. Don't assume that something you thought of hasn't been thought of before. Try looking in the other pages before posting.
In other news, yes, "your" idea is good, but intellect, damage and spirit don't really matter all that much while leveling (they do, but not much). You can successfully level to 70 naked (it's a dumb idea, but possible).
So yes, it would work for short fights, but prolonged fights would suffer in all intellect/ damage gear.

I assumed it had already been thought of but didn't notice it on the priest forums. I've used in-combat swapping during innervates with my druid, and just figured it might be viable as an ooc option for spirit tap.
I was hoping to hear either...
"I do this on my priest with 'of spirit' green items and I get a full mana bar every time, definitely do it."
or
"I tried it once and it's dumb. It's not worth the effort and you'll constantly find yourself trapped in combat, wearing the wrong set, praying your wand will save you."

but in an all-spirit armor set your mana pool will be lower. when go equip your other set your mana bar will extend and you'll have to wait for it to fill back up.
have you tried ditching the damage gear and using "owl" (int/spi) gear only?

I checked and spirit tap is dynamic. The bonus applies to whatever gear you switch in an out so it's not tied to the gear you orginally had on when it started.
That's a good point about having a smaller mana pool in all spirit gear. I didn't consider that before. I would need to add in some owl gear to my spirit tap set, at least enough to get close to my mana bar in my damage gear. I guess the regen is only decent if it's not capped. Thanks.

I have ItemRack do this for me on my Priest. My mana pool is actually larger in my Spirit gear than Damage gear. Most of my spirit set also doubles as what I wear when healing so it has hefty Int as well. I usually end up regening more mana than I need.
Working quite well at level 48 thus far. Damage gear to kill faster, Spirit to get mana back. I never need to drink unless I get a bad pull of 2-3 mobs.
And you shouldn't worry about having a lower mana pool in Spirit gear. As long as you have enough to kill a mob and regen enough to kill the next, you will still grind endlessly. I would actually have to recommend this way of doing things to any and every priest leveling. I use to have to drink fairly often before I decided to invest heavily in a Spirit set of gear.

When I'm grinding in Shadow, I have bout 950 shadow spellpower, and what I do to prevent going oom during my rotation is I have
Scryer's Bloodgem
and
Bangle of Endless Blessings
, as my two equipped trinkets.
I pop my Bloodgem, cast VT, VE, SW:P, which should dish out about 6-7k dmg (and Starshards now ^.^) when spirit tap procs, I pop the Bangle, and my mp5 jumps upwards to 400+, and if I can hit the FSR, I usually end up seeing 2-3k mana regen'd. Usually enough to do that rotation again, if I just emptied my pool on those 3 casts.
If you are so lucky to have the
Earring of Soulful Meditation
you should be able to pop it with the Bangle at the same time, or subsequently, and you will see incredible mana regen due to spirit tap :)

My priest has never had any mana-problems, from level 1 to level 65 at the moment.
My Build.
This is what I've done for the last 40 orso levels:
Cast Holy Fire. Cast Smite. Cast Mind Blast. Cast Shadow Word: Pain. Wand.
Loot corpse, run towards next mob, cast Renew (if needed) and begin anew.
The only times I need to drink, are when I pull 3-4 mobs, or when I've just corpserun and buffed fully.
Pre 60 I gathered Owl-similar gear, int and spirit first.
*edit* And no, I don't "switch" to spirit gear. I only have two sets, one for grinding, another for RP.
