BoH takes one GCD to setup and refresh.
Post by

quite. there's GCDs aplenty that you're not factoring in.
haunt is 23% and SE is another 15% on top etc etc. napkin math ftl
as i say, they are both woefully underwhelming (in my jaded PvE-only view). there will certainly be gimmick fights that really suit each of them in cataclysm raiding. twin valks is the perfect BoH while faction champs is the perfect swap fight (or would be without the CD) but these are very specific, making me really question why they've been added at all.

I kind of liked using Drain Life :(
priest forums are that way bro...gtfo of my warlock forums /rawr
;-)

I just really liked the idea that draining the very health from my enemy being one of my main sources of damage (ie, filler spell) instead of shooting balls of shadow. Its the old EQ necro in me wanting out :P

channelled filler spells have innate problems. you may like the RP but they're kind impractical.
personally i see the affliction
spec
(not tree) as the shadow spec. it's a little unhealthy for a spec to derive ALL of it's DPS from a single tree so personally i welcome the idea that blizz intend to stick to what they've always said about aff using SB and i'm very curious about how they plan to make it happen.

Yeah, I completely understand why, and it makes sound sense. DL just tastes better from a lore aspect.
And yeah, I've started just viewing Affliction as the "shadow" damage tree, like you said. It'll be interesting how they adjust SB to once again be better than DL since that's the intent (hopefully it doesn't involve a nerf to DL).

honestly, i can't see how they can do it without nerfing DL.
affliction overall damage isn't bad right now with early simcraft versions showing affliction beating out other lock specs and several other classes. if changing a filler spell is all about DPET you've basically got two easy options. buff SB or nerf DL. if aff and demo both needed a bump anyway then buffing SB might make a lot of sense. assuming that's not the case then i think people (specifically PvPers) might want to brace themselves for a nerfing.
the more complicated alternative is to provide greater synergy. an example might be; people have been complaining about SE's short duration but if blizz reduced it further it might push people to use more SBs. this wouldn't be very popular and is very unlikely - just an example of what i mean.

what?
SE on 2 or 3 targets?
BoH = 1 GCD and done. SS = many, many GCDs.
this thread has really become derailed and you're getting yourself mixed up with all this stuff now.
my opinion is that SS is more than a little underwhelming and i have my doubts over it needing a cooldown.
if you disagree with this then that's cool. let's wait and see what happens.
there's a whole load of stuff happening in cataclysm that does not involved soul swap.
(...for which i am glad 'cause it sucks ^_^)

Affliction
-Unstable Affliction base damage increased by 100%
Destruction
-Searing Pain now has a 40 yards range, up from 30 yards.
Pet Abilities
-Suffering now has a 5 yards range, 10 yards radius unchanged.
Nothing to see here, move along.

The only way I can think of is to put in a proper talent for it. But that won't happen.

though, sadly, it's too late in the beta process for that i think.

Having no cooldown can make little importance in PvE, but is way too OP in a BG. You can just send your dots to one target, and then transfer it to 4, 5 targets, doing HEAVY damage on all of them at the same time. And without allowing them to avoid the damage, like in Rain of Fire, for example.

yes, we had discussed its relative strength in PvP.
the recent patch where nothing important happened actually seems to have changed the coefficient on DL. i don't have a reliable source for that but it was expected.
SB back as filler.

I doubt its possible, but would a soulburn effect for SB improve its ability to be a filler. I've no idea what this effect could potentially be, but it would save DL from a nerf (only possible soulburn effect that comes to mind is maybe immediately applying 3 stacks of embrace upon impact).
