Wow, someone interested in just playing and having fun...been a while since I saw one of those, so I say welcome aboard :D
Generally you'll want to vendor only the grey and white quality items. You'll notice as you pick stuff up that each item has its name in different colours.
Grey itemWhite itemGreen itemBlue ItemPurple itemSell the grey and white stuff to NPC's, pretty much everything else can go on the AH. Cloth is a white quality item that should almost always go on the AH - it's very rare that it sells for more to a vendor than it does to a player.
If you're planning to play solo quite a bit (nothing wrong with that, of course - I'm not a people person either -.-), I might recommend enchanting as one of your professions. It'll help you enhance your gear and can make questing just that little bit easier. Also, the lower level enchanting materials often sell for quite a lot of cash (at least on my server) because people are buying them to quickly level up their alts' enchanting skills.
The 'standard' profession combo for a druid is skinning and leatherworking, simply because druids wear leather armour. And, as others have pointed out, if it's moneymoneymoney you're looking for, you can't really go wrong with any combination of the three gathering professions - mining, herbalism and skinning.
One thing that will increase your income is buying bags. Get the biggest bags you can afford (usually 14 slots are fairly cheap on the AH) and you'll be cutting your questing downtime and increasing your payload by a fairly significant amount just because you won't be destroying stuff to make room and/or running back to town every 10 minutes to offload stuff.
Anyway, hope you got something useful out of that. Once again, welcome to WoW. Good luck and have fun ;)
