Sup all, i just started playing WoW and some one recomended this site as a good place for info and whatnot so i thought i'd drop an intro thread in and say hi...If this is the wrong place by all means my bad.
Anyway as i said i just started wow, havent played many mmo's before, and by gawd its amazing...now i know why all the people i know who play are cracked out all the time.
couple of questions to start it off-
1. Anyone tell me how long u can AFK before booted from a server? Cant seem to find a set number.
2. Around what lvl do you have to start partying with people? I like to solo quite a bit and dont really like "people" very much. I dont play a healer really so it doesnt matter as much to me, but i can see needing people at some point.
Other than that i have absolutely no idea what im doing, i just like to run around and explore, also i am absolutely fine with that.
Anyway hello again, and thanks in advance for answering any nubbie questions i have now and in the future.

1. I'm not sure. I was booted the other day when I was AFK, but I was gone for an hour, so I don't really know. Basically, if you're going to be gone for more then 10 minutes, you might as well just log off.
2. There's really no specific level where you will need to group. It depends on the quests. Quests in dungeons will need to be done in groups if you want to get any XP (you can wait and level up a ton and then solo them, but it won't do you any good at that point).
Other quests suggest you pursue them in a group (usually killing an elite monster or something). Its basically the same as dungeons. You don't have to group, but it allows you to complete the quest earlier. These quests usually give more XP when you turn them in, so the sooner you group and the sooner you get them finished, the more they are going to help you level.
You can easily solo the majority of the time, but join a guild and make some friends. Its what keeps the game fun. (I'm a newb to though, so I might be mistaken).

In theory you can solo all the way to 80 (not recommended). You'll miss out on better gear by not running instances. As far as leveling I have found a Hunter or Warlock to be the easiest due to pet aggro. Side note pick your perfessions early so you can keep up on those as you level. Two gathering would be my pref to build up the $s.

well i started out trying one of most classes, horde and alliance, i find myself liking horde quite a bit for what ive tried(undead, tauren, warrior, rogue, druid) Just really fun. Didnt like alliance so much.
As to professions, i have no idea about them whatsoever, just that i see some trainers around where ive been.
I hesitate to pick them early before i know my class, since you can only have two? I'm leaning towards my tauren druid to become my main at this point right now- i wonder if there are suggested professions for this combo to work well with my race/class any suggestions, and why would be excellent.
Another quick question- I try to set my graphics low for better performance, but everytime i start the game its just back at the far right again. I never see any change either when i DO change it- just that message about i might have to log out for changes to effect. suggestions?
I dont even have a character up to 10 yet, but im cool with super slow leveling no matter ^^ just want to make sure when i have to choose something(path?) i know what im choosing and be able to choose what will be funnest over time.
I just came from one of those korean grindfest games with 150+ lvls so this is a pleasant change XD

Professions can be unlearned at any time. If you're just starting a new character, I would highly advise you to take up both mining and skinning. You can get plenty of gold from the items you receive, and you will get extra
Agility
and Stamina to boot.
Crit rating, not agility.
And instead of skinning, herbalism is a good option too - however keep in mind every new player (or every experienced player with a new character/toon) will be selecting two of the three gathering professions, and in a lot of servers prices aren't ideal due to oversupply.

Get a clock
Watch the time

It is possible to reach Lv 80 without ever grouping up with someone, but at least in Outland and Northrend (where there often are plenty of people to group up with) you should at least get a group for some of the instances and the group quests. In Azeroth while still being below Lv 58 you can basicly just solo stuff, and if there is a a quest you have no chance of completing yourself then you can always ask in the general chat for help, but don't expect any answers. Moving on to the next quest is often the quickest.

1. You have 30 minutes in game before it boots you to your character selection screen. 30 minutes after that it kicks you from the server.
2. You start grouping with people whenever you want to do a dungeon or when you get a quest that is labeled as a group quest that you cannot complete on your own.
I would suggest
WoWWiki
as a good place to read up on classes and professions and see what you can try to find out.
Don't worry about knowing what will be the most fun for you. This is a large game and you can always choose where you want to go. And you always have the option of creating another character and leveling them up in a place you may have skipped or missed before.
And shadowiceavian, Skinning and Mining do not grant you extra Agility or Stamina. Skinning gives you a flat critical strike rating increase and Mining gives you a flat health bonus.

im not sure if ill need to vend anything except the NPC anytime in the near future. Im not even sure how the auction? system works or anything. I just need professions that will compliment my class/race or even generate better cash from the NPC.

You are correct on skinning giving critical strike rating, but Mining still gives Stamina.
My apologies. I guess they changed it back when I wasn't looking.

1. I believe it depends on how full the server is, time does vary though.
2. Really you could spend all of your time solo depending on how you play. You don't have to group at all while leveling if you don't want to though.
