wow that was a lot to take in but to answer your questions.
yes it has a massive story line you might want to pick up the rts games to help you understand it warcraft warcraft 2 and warcraft 3 with there respective expansions. also wowwiki.com has great articles and every named person event etc in the game.
the reasons you were given are among the answers of why it is so popular along with the lore and everything else. its one of those things were you need to experience it yourself to understand why.
i i cant really answer this since my friend got me to play on my current server
again i cant answer this because the economy varies from server to server
http://www.wowwiki.com/Instances is a good article on how it works.
now for your wowhead questions.
unless you become a premium member you can only use the avatars on here already.
not really sure i think only mods can do this. (someone correct me if im wrong.)
it is kept up to date by people who upload data using the wowhead client add on. and you can look up pretty much anything you want on here regarding boss loot what mobs drop what etc.
once you been here a month or two you lose your "new poster status"
also to address your p s you cant pm people on the forums but i think that's one of the things they would like to add here.

Q1)There are so many classes, I don't know what does which, nor do I know what classes fit which races storywise and statwise. To put bluntly: What classes make the most sense with each race (out of the ones that they can pick)?
Human Paladin
Human Rogue
Draenei Paladin
Draenei Priest
Night Elf Druid
Night Elf Hunter
Gnome Mage
Gnome Warlock
Dwarf Warrior
Undead Rogue
Undead Warlock
Orc Warrior
Orc Shaman
Troll Shaman
Troll hunter
Tauren Druid
Blood Elf Mage
There are plenty more combinations that work well into lore as well, though. Stats make 0.000000000000001% difference (ie none).
Q2)Can anyone point me toward a good guide for each of the classes? I'm thinking about trying all of the classes to Level 10, and then deciding which one I want to use the majority of the time, but it's all a moot point if I don't know anything about the classes.
Go to the class forums and read the stickies (st the top of the page).
Q3)Looking at the instance link, I can see Blizzard is good about controlling boss killing. My next question regarding this is: How many members can a party hold? And is killing the boss with said amount unreasonably difficult for some bosses?
Up to 5 for dungeons and questing. Up to 10, 20, 25, or 40 for raids.
Q3.5)Are some bosses insanely unpredictable or overpowered? I remember in Ragnarok Online that two or three of the bosses used some rather unpredictable patterns, or did some obscene damage that was impossible for players who weren't godly geared to survive. Is it the same here?
WoW bosses are very, very predictable (once you learn the fight).
Q4)Could someone point me to a link that details the backstory of World of Warcraft? I know I won't be able to afford the RTS games (or even find them for that matter) for a good while, so I'd like to know a bit about Azeroth's history.
http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info/story/chapter1.htmlQ5)In Final Fantasy XI, there was a fame system that opened up certain quests depending on how much fame you had with a certain city, and you could raise your fame by doing certain quests for NPCs in the cities. Is there a system like that here? Is fame also hidden here?
It's called reputation, and no it's not hidden. It used to involve opening up quests/dungeon, but now it's used primarily for getting gear.
Q6)When I tried selecting a server, there were like 4-6 (don't remember exactly how many) servers that said "New Players" in their population gauge. In your opinion, what population level would be best to pick as a starting server?
It realy doesn't matter. Big server = lots of people to do stuff with. Smaller server = less competition while leveling/farming.
Q1)How much does the Premium membership here cost? Is it insanely expensive, like in the $30+ range, or is it cheap, like less than $20?
PremiumQ2)Is it possible to put in a link to an item or monster on these forums, so I can show something that I might be interested in or refer someone to a certain item?
Shiny weapon.
Cool dude.
Boring quest.
Etc.
Q3)Is the blog feature only available to Premium members? I noticed that up at the top and was intrigued, because I had been thinking of setting up my own blog.
Blogs are run by Wowhead staff/bloggers only.
