1. About half the time, when aggroing a single enemy, the enemy and voidwalker will both run towards my warlock. Then run right past me. More than one Immolate has failed because by the time it was done casting, the enemy was behind me.
It would make some sort of sense if the enemy was running up to attack my warlock. It would make some sense if the enemy started running, and the voidwalker used Torment to pull it back. But no, it's like they're in a race. In one instance, the voidwalker and plainstrider ran right past me, and out of spellcasting/wand range.
What gives? Is this normal behavior for the voidwalker? Should I be sending in the voidwalker first to avoid this type of thing? For the record, typical cast sequence is Curse of Agony, Corruption, maybe Immolate, then start wanding -- the foes have been dying pretty easily with just this, and I never manually send the voidwalker in to fight. I never saw this behavior with the imp, but then again the imp isn't a melee class. Will this type of thing continue with the succubus?
Ok.. Well it seems you have got the idea. But may just need some fine touching.
1) Send you VW to Mob.
2) As your VW is approaching mob ( gaining agro ) start casting Immolate.
3) Then proceed with CoA followed by Corruption
4) Depending on your level you may or may not pull agro off the mob. If you do, fear and let your dot's tick over, if not just keep wanding him till he's dead
Basically, because we wear cloth, we want to try and avoid getting hit by the target. So using your VW to hold the agro you can maintain this ( or felguard at higher levels with demo spec ), and fear if you generate to much agro.
As for your VW's behaviour with "running" with the mobs. This is normal, its happened to me quite a few times, but you will see it happening less if you send your VW in first. If it still happens you just have to move your character to face the mob while casting, as this won't interupt it.
3. Does your warlock use melee weapons? Ever? My warlock is a Tailoring/Enchanter, so it wasn't too long before she was able to craft a Lesser Magic Wand, and not long after that that she was able to craft a Greater Magic Wand. Both of these make the available daggers look like toys, and there's no minimum range for a wand like there is for a bow.
Generally if you have Staves / Daggers equiped it won't be for Melee use, it will be for the stat increase, and you will even see yourself using your wand alot less when you start using ShadowBolt frequently.
On a side note just a few things:
- Up to about level 60, use affliction spec. There is almost zero down time. Send VW. Cast Dot's. Life Tap. And you will then gain HP Back from Corruption or you can use Drain Life for more HP. You should also Fear if you agro to early into the fight.
- Basically for PvE ( Questing ) you should be using your Voidwalker. Due to its agro holding abilities. Also its Shield comes in handy alot for PvP.
- For Instances use your IMP.
- Around level 60, switch to demo spec to get your Fel Guard. Basically its the same as VW but alot tougher and holds better agro, as you will find at this level your VW won't hold agro well. You can switch back to Affliction around 70 or wait till 80, where most make a Affliction / Destro duel spec.
Well. Thats about all i can think of atm, im sure ive missed alot though. Hope it helps.

1. About half the time, when aggroing a single enemy, the enemy and voidwalker will both run towards my warlock. Then run right past me. More than one Immolate has failed because by the time it was done casting, the enemy was behind me.
This pet behavior started after Blizz changed the pets (hunter and lock, and now DK since LK came out) to always attack from behind. So the pet tries to get behind, the mob turns and moves to attack, the pet repositions, and so on. Sometimes it goes on for quite a while, as you've noticed. Either run after them, turn while casting (this won't break the cast), or click pet-follow then pet-attack to reset them so they stand still.
But often, I'll lose my minion while traveling. Boat or air travel, I've lost minions in both situations.
Happens to hunters and DKs, too. Annoying, so just be prepared with a few shards at all times. At your level, four always seemed enough for me. I'm nearing 50 (belf) and run with 6 or 7. On my 80 (gnome), I'm experimenting with 16 in a 22 slot bag, no shard bag, for a few more regular slots. Now that drain soul can make more than one shard per cast, keeping the max number of shards (32) even at 80 isn't crucial.
However, only having one shard when you log out is enough. You can get any pet you want then drain soul only the first mob or two to get a few more for healthstone and soulstone.
I also use the addon Necrosis to manage my shards (and several other things). It isn't necessary but it is *very* convenient for it to auto delete shards once I have the max number I tell it I want.
there's no minimum range for a wand like there is for a bow.
Warlocks can't use bows. Their only ranged weapon is a wand. Melee weapons are for stats only.

I was wondering about this. I know there are some large soul shard bags, but at the moment the only thing my warlock is using shards for is minion summoning (rare) and healthstones (one every time I log in, rarely after a battle). I was wondering if there are later skills that will use shards more often.
Warlocks can't use bows. Their only ranged weapon is a wand. Melee weapons are for stats only.
I didn't mean to imply that warlocks could use bows. But as I think I've mentioned in other places, I've been playing a Hunter a fair bit. They'll use a bow for ranged attacks, but when the foe gets too close, switch to a melee weapon. So that's more of what I'm used to, and I was wondering why warlocks have melee weapons at all.
If you never use your wand you will live a happy life as a lock. Stick to dots and drains. Weapons are only used for their stats to increase the power of spells and your mana/health pool.
With my warlock focusing on Affliction, I have been using the damage over time skills. But once those are cast... well, I suppose I could stand there while my minion does all the work. Or I could burn through mana like there's no tomorrow and cast pretty ineffective Shadow Bolts. Or I could use a wand.
Level 17 now, and there are still very few skills my warlock has available to her. I'm sure that later on her spells will become more powerful than wanding, but for now the wand is better damage than most of her spells.
I'm just not sure what else I can do once the damage over time skills are cast. Cast them again?
no, don't recast your dots.. if you want to burn the mobs down quicker then life tap and cast drain life, and make sure you switch to drain soul when you get to near the end for the mana back via
imp. drain soul

Side note, I've been carefully keeping track of the number of soul shards my warlock has. And when the minion de-spawns from ship or flight travel, a soul shard is not returned. Rather annoying.
It *is* annoying, but once you are 20, ship travel won't be a problem since your pet isn't out when you are mounted. I don't see it happening nearly as often on purchased flights.

On your professions I'd drop tailoring - it really is a waste at this point. pick up a gathering profession and make lots of gold. even low level mining can make a lot of gold really fast. sell everything and buy the 32 shard bag and some 18 slot bags (20 gold each - or less) and your storage problem is gone for the next 60 levels. Even doing the hallowed candy things will pick you up a lot of gold - enough for a couple bags (6-7 gold per treat) even at level 20. Just don't buy off the ah other than the said bags. Sell everything you don't really need and d/e all greens, blues you pick up and no longer need.
you only get gold at level 80, if you're below 80 you get experience.. no money. (i know, cause i just spent a coiuple hours getting my lvl 75 alt the tricks and treats of azeroth achievement... got about 6.5 bars of XP, but not one cent for my trouble)

yeah, i disagree with withambomb's point here. until around level 30 wands are really very useful for warlocks. their damage is comparable to another DoT ticking or stronger if you have a good one and before that warlocks don't have the tools to manage their own health and mana sustainably.
by about level 30 you get siphon life and some other useful talents and that's about the same levels that wands start to be more about the stats and their dps tails off.
of course wands are nothing more than stat sticks at max level and of course shoot shouldn't be on anyone's actionbars but at early levels they are very useful and should be embraced.
