Need rolling etiquette

Hellos. I'm leveling up a druid, and have both heard and been told that I'll need at least two sets of gear in case i need to backup heal, even though I'm feral.
My question is this: will people get mad at me if I roll need on healing gear, even though I'm feral? I'd think that classes spec'd for healing should get priority, but how else I'd get decent healing gear, I don't know.
I was thinking that I should only roll need if nobody else needs it, but then again, any decent healing gear drops will most likely be an upgrade for the current group's healer. So I wouldn't really get any chance at that kind of gear unless I just rolled need anyway.
Any opinions?

I'd think that classes spec'd for healing should get priorityYou don't run into many of those while leveling up. :)
So I'd simply say to the group. "I could use that for my healing set. May I roll?" and go from there.
Plus people usually run instances more than once so theres a chance the healer, if you yourself isn't the healer, already has it.

I'd say even if the healer isnt healing spec you should let them have the gear. You should roll need on gear based on what role you are playing in the group. That's my feeling on it.
That kind of fails though when, for whatever reason, you're healing for the group (happens more often than you'd think at the lower levels - a feral can still heal pretty efficiently, especially if they have a set of healing gear). I've had the following situation happen several times:
Person: LF1M
Me: I'll come, invite
Person: Can u heal?
Me: Well, I'm feral. I'm running the place for . I can heal, just remember that item is the only thing I'm running this instance for.
Person: ok *invite*
Me: *repeats what she just said to the rest of group*
Group: *say they're ok with it*
And then when the last boss dies, and the item I'd said I was rolling on drops:
Me: *rolls*
Rest of group: OMG that is not a healing drop you ninja, druids should just heal, etc. etc.
*shrug*
As for the original question - I usually wait and see what the healer does. If they pass (or even if it's taking them a long time to decide), I ask, "does anybody mind if I roll on this for healing gear?"
Granted, I usually run instances with a priest healer, so if healing leather drops it just goes to me, but still. I've been in instances before with two priests, a holy one and a shadow one, and the shadow one got several new healing gear upgrades because the holy priest already had everything that dropped. :P

I'm a moonkin so I'm building 4 sets :) (though the cat-dps one is really at lowest priority and as such quite bad)
For leveling purposes, i'd say to look at the current spec of all players for first dibs, and then all off-spec healers can get second choices. I mean, the lvl 50 shadow priest is probably not going to respec holy until 70, so the chances that he'd really need the healing item is the same as yours (maybe a bit higher since tanks are more rare than dps but...).

2 sets? is that it :D
my druid currently has: tanking, kitty dps, kitty pvp, boomkin, healing, healing pvp.
and ofc back in the day that included nature res tanking set and fire res tanking set as well.
so much gear O.o

I almost always default preference to each group member based on the role they're performing in that run. If I'm tanking, I'll default the healing items to healing classes if they need them and vice versa.
Resistance is not over, unfortunately. Nature, Frost and Arcane are at least three I can think of that tanks still need for various things :\.

Add to that list Shadow (Mother Shahraz for the whole raid) and Fire (Illidan, Flames of Azzinoth offtanks).
So much for Blizzard saying they'd stop making fights that require people to farm for resistance sets. :/

Yeah; you know, an interesting point about that: Blizzard doesn't usually reverse what they said they'd do once they've said it. I guess, though, technically most of those resistances fights only require resistance sets for the
tank
rather than the entire raid. Insofar as that goes, I guess they
sort of
did what they said they would.
Doesn't help me very much, though :\.
