If someone asked to take it then id have no problem with it, however i get preety $%^&ed of when ppl say they need an item and then go sell it...

The idea is that everyone *needs* a BoE- they can sell it and use the money to buy a BoE more suited to their class.
However, I've never had anyone have a problem if I've stated that it's an upgrade, and asked to need.
Not asking is bad.
I can see where you are coming from with this. However, what it boils down to is "I Need Money," which is why I wouldn't want to support this method. If the gear drops and someone can use it (as an upgrade, or even side-grade) shouldn't they get first dibs?
It is hard enough winning gear in 25 man raids (out rolling everyone else) so why deprave them of gear they can use?

Off topic a little,
but when Frozen Orbs drop, is it wrong to roll need on those if you need an enchant, as they can't be equipped and are only for item enhancement?

If I'm with strangers, i.e. PUGs, I'll ask if anyone minds me needing, noone usually does, and if anyone does I'll just greed. Guild, friends, I'll need or greed as I see fit according to my own item level as well as that of any others in the group that may need it.

I always roll greed for Frozen Orbs, only because there is more then one way to obtain them and generally there's always more then one person in my group that has a profession that can use them.

That may depend on the server. Every group I've been in, those are needed on by all. Only once have I seen someone roll greed, and he didn't say a word when the rest of us rolled need. If you aren't certain, ask at the start how they will be rolled on.

In my old char/realm (back on TBC), we usually rolls GREED on those -frozen-orbs-like- heroic drops. When when i did my first heroic in WotLK (another char/realm) and the orb dropped, i was the first one to click, and i clicked greed. When everyone else clicked need i got kinda @#$%ed off, like "WTF WE SHOULD GREED THAT" and then everyone said that was a all-need-drops and that was the way it is.
I got kinda confused... but now i got it and i'm in the all-need for orbs. Sometimes i see some dudes roll greed on it, but i guess they are just like i was, and in the next time they'll roll need too.
Back in topic:
If its an upgrade for your spec that you're using in THAT run (which isnt necessarily your
main
spec), you shouldnt even ask for it. Just need. That is why the buttons are there. If its a BoE, equip is ASAP, so people will get sure that you wont AH it.
If its an upgrade for -any-other-spec-, you should ask if you can need it. If no one mids, roll need. And again, if its a BoE, equip is ASAP.
If its a BoE upgrade for "another toon"... well... unless i know you (a guildy, a friend, etc), i WILL mind, and wont let you roll need on it. There is no guarantee that you wont AH it.
If you're looking for a specific drop and needed to run as a off-spec (like your pally need ret gear (as a main spec) but you run in as holy ('cause your group didnt got it))... you should ask/let they know BEFORE even goin to the meeting stone... so that DK wont get @#$%ed when you roll need on the dps-plate gear.

If you're in a heroic/raid and you actually 'need' a BoE green then you probably shouldn't be in that heroic/raid.

I beg to differ, one of the best resto and ele shammy pants in the game currently. BOE Epic drops is a no no to hit need for, they are too rare.Bull. An upgrade is an upgrade. You have more a right to Need and wear/use it then someone else does to Greed and auction it.
You should ask first just to be courteous (and you can bet I'm going to inspect you shortly after), but I've never seen anyone have a problem with it. If you do try to protest, I'm not going to be grouping with you in the future. You're playing the game for the wrong reasons.

For a PuG ...you only NEED out of the instance that which you bring. If you are DPS, then that's the only spec you need on, healer needs healer, tank needs tank.
So YES, I too would regard your guild-mate is a ninja.
1) I don't know that your guild mate even has an off-spec to begin with.
2) You guild-mate didn't bring that spec to the current encounter, so I don't really care what off spec he may have.
Yes... I doubt many people would bother or care if it was announced up front. But when the BoE drop comes and he suddenly declares he has an off-spec its 100% suspicious to need on it and it's a poke in the eye for someone to need on that which they won't be using.
I have an offspec too.. not sure if it is tank or DPS or PvP because I have spent my talent points yet.. can I roll on everything I want as need?
I see your point, But People tend to gear one spec then work on getting gear for the other spec, while using their main spec... Most common is DPSing in a group and Rolling on Heal gear or Tank gear.
My Guild mate is a shaman, and the item in question can be used in either of the possible alt specs (Restro, or Element).
One of the main reasons to run 5-man groups are to get gear, be it BoP or BoE, Even if your getting gear for your alt spec.
For me I would Only roll need on a BoE item if
A) If someone in the group doesn't need it for their current job in the Group (IE, if the Tank Needs the tank BoE, i wouldn't roll need on it.)
and
B) No one wants it for anything else other then for the gold.

If you're going to roll on "off-spec" items (off-spec as in spec not used right now), you always let your group know before you go in. It's a given, and plain rude if you don't.
