doing the questline to summon Yor, which is just irritating and mostly pointless.
Yor drops nice loot, epic rings for all classes, a nice BoE random chestpiece that sells nicely in the AH, and a badge to boot!
The grind was economic.
what? there are grinds that aren't economic? or do you mean something other than making money via grinds?
All that mattered was having a huge, huge amount of gold, or access to a raiding guild's supply of cores.
that... seems like a pretty rough parameter for a entry-level raider...
A rep grind that is not time consuming or repetitive,
isn't mining/purchasing dark iron ore for profit very calculative and time-consuming in the field (for miners) or AH (if you're purchasing dark iron ore and selling items in return)?
and is therefore very casual-friendly: just retardedly expensive. Getting to honored should cost 2000g, revered 5000g, exalted 10000g, or perhaps even more,
err... how do you define "casual" having 10k gold?
i define casual as being able to run 1~2 raid and 3~4 heroics/week to be "casual" and through that, it'll take either
1: very wise use of "buy and sell" in the AH
2: a long time in dungeons
3: a very long while farming things to sell/daily quests
This would encourage players to make investments potentially lucrative to themselves and other players, and allow casuals to be a power on their server to the same degree raiders who can make the SSC/TK belts are.
... come again?
i didn't understand the first sentence entirely and
casual = SSC/TK raiders?
obviously you have a different meaning of "casual" and "player" as i do
for one thing i will never consider grinding a faction or trying to take over the market with BoE craftables "playing" that's like working in the stock market, which a different theme....
unless you're talking in a different context, in which case, please explain your ways to me

so you like playing stock market...
i tried it once, was bored after 10 min sitting in the AH buying out everything and reselling them... couldn't stand it in my case... that's personal preference i guess...
Many MMOs and other games have a significant economic aspect.
you bring up a good point, but i think my counterpoint will explain wow doesn't have a new faction that you grind as you did in thorium brotherhood
at least 1/4 of wow players are kids, and they rather see monsters spurting out blood rather than trying to grasp the concept of a economy in front of the AH
most of WoW isn't fun.

What was your counterpoint?
that wow has 25% more kids and hence 90% less economic value
edit: i mean in terms of the general audience, people like you benefit from it but most kids don't want to bother with using economy to grind factions, they'd ratehr kill things

I personally hate fighting and killing mobs.
what class/spec do you play? you make it sound like you play a healer or tank, as they're the class that whines about grinding the most
not saying that you're whining, but your aversion to killing has sparked my interest

Ah, but someone has to sell them the weapons and armor to kill things with.
lol...affliction warlock.
pshh
i got all my gear from instancing... and questing... BoE stuff is over my budget... not like they're an improvement to my gear anyways...
DoT them to death!... no wonder you don't like killing, you'd have to be a sadist to enjoy DoT'ing crap to death... don't tell me you're a sadist (*gasp*)
btw... this is far from what a forum thread should be, it's a discussion between the two of us (*looks around*) ... just the 2 of us...
